I just discovered your books with the Bedwyn series - but I have started to read your previous books. I must say that I have read NO MAN'S MISTRESS in 1 day and have to say that is probably my favorite book ever! The story was incredible and I am so glad that someone finally used a "real" ex-courtesan for a main character. At first when you discover that she is a supposed courtesan I was thinking he would bed her and find out she was a virgin not the other way around! That was great!!! I especially loved how human you made your characters feel - I was tearing up while reading many of the scenes. I am sure many poor girls were forced into a life like Viola in the 1800s it is nice to have a story even fictional have a happy ending for one of them.

Dear Mary, I'm a middle aged woman who wouldn't have been caught dead with a romance novels in my hands when, desperate for something to read, I picked up No Man's Mistress in an airport about a year ago. It was a revelation. I did not know a romance novel could be so well written, thought-provoking and engaging. Since then I've read about half your book list, including as many of your out-of-print works I can find. I've also discovered other romance writers, particularly regency authors. I especially enjoy the work of Julia Quinn, Laura Kinsale, Julia Ross and Christina Dodd but your novels are my favorite. Your writing has a controlled intensity and an originality of plot that I haven't found, consistently anyway, in the other authors I've read. Some of your books are better constructed and written than others, in my view, but they are always well worth reading. I'm in awe of your ability to write in such quantity and with such high quality. You're surely God's gift to the regency romance genre! Thank you for many hours of enchantment and enjoyment and please keep creating your moving, well crafted novels!

Hope you consider my request. THANK YOU!

The hours I have spent reading your books have given me a chance of forgetting all my problems ,which there are lots, it gives me a wonderful chance to escape the daily pressures of life!! Thanks so much!! I just wanted to ask about Kit's brother Syd, there is nothin better than a tortured soul who finds happiness, of course in Wales!! I really think he needs to happy he deserves it, please write him a happy ending!! I also wanted to knowhow you can write these books so fast, it is such a welcome change to be involved with characters and not wait for one year for each book, that alone is awesome but that the books are great, very well written, funny and heartwarming and organized is reallu beyond belief!! WELL DONE!!! Thanks again for me little bit of freedom!!!

Ms. Balogh, I have all of your books, and have re-read them several times. I have sometimes wished that your characters would speak with more emphasis, and would like to know if you have a particular reason to avoid emphatic punctuation, italics, and the like. The strongly emotional situations in which you place your characters has often brought me to tears, and I would like to thank you for the powerful stories you present. I hope you plan to continue writing for many years to come! Best regards, Diane

I have been carrying around a note for several years of two books by you that I couldn't find, otherwise I think I have all of them. When I looked at your list of titles written I didn't find these two titles. They are "The Christmas Wish" and "The Christmas Journey". I've carried the note around for so long I don't even know where I came up with these titles. Could you let me know please if these are real titles of yours. If you didn't write them, no wonder I can't find them! Thank you so much and keep up the great writing.

Thank God you're so prolific; for, just as I eagerly searched for Georgette Heyer's books more than thirty years ago, so do I search for yours...on the internet, at garage sales, at used book stores. I've paid outrageous prices for some of your early out-of-print Regencies, but they were well worth it. I'm happy to see that your publisher will be bringing out more of your wonderful stories this coming year. Thank you again, and may you continue to enjoy good health and good writing. DG

I guess one of the disadvantages of having a message board is that you get email from crazy people. I hope you do not take "bigchick"s message (Dec.4) to heart. She must have read a different "Slightly Scandalous" because her description bore no resemblance to the book I read. I think that reader must have serious self- image and authority issues. Freyja may have been arrogant and unfeeling in previous Bedwyn stories but she grows into a beautiful, intelligent sensitive woman...and it is a story that's wonderful in its unfolding. You should be proud of this exceptional book.

Dear Mary Balog, Once again you have taken me on a wonderful trip to another place and time and I have been allowed to travel in the comfort of my own home. I am enjoying the Bedwyn's and that fact that, underneath it all, they are humans who need and want love too. I read some of the messages you have received and I too have been collecting your older books. I was very excited to hear they have dollar value. I think I will just save them to read over and over now, as I do anyhow, and leave them in my will to my young grandsons. They can discover how much someone will pay for them many years from now. I will have enjoyed them myself and the boys will be rich because your books are worth millions of dollars for the pleasure they provide. Many thanks. Lillian

Hi. I'll get straight to the point. I am a big fan of romance novels. Believe me, I read a million if them. And most I have liked some I have not. And i don't want to be rude, but I didn't care for your book Slightly Scandalous. I know your thinking "I dosen't matter what you think. I have money and I'm well known." I don't put people down and i do like the way you have the book set up. But I just hate Freyja Bedwyn. Women who deny their fate makes me angry. And I know thats how you intended it to be. But I'm just speaking my mind.I wanted to jump in the book and kill her. She was too snotty, thinking she was above everyone because her brother was a duke. People who act like that aren't above anyone. They're barely above dirt. I just wanted to say the book was not to my likeing it sucked big time.

Imagined, they've met in a park while Kit is engaged in a brawl! Totally inappropriate for a member of the aristocracy. Well anyway, I really love it and I'm looking forward to another book by Mary Balogh if I can find one. It's really hard to look for books written by Mary Balogh here in the Philippines. On Thanksgiving day, I found myself in discussion with a stranger turned friend in a local Walmart book aisle. Our point of connection -- Romance novels. She recommended a book by her favorite author. I, of course, asked if she had read your books. She hadn't. However after a quick overview of the Bedwyn series to date, she purchased "A Summer to Remember." (The Slightly series were sold out or I believe she would have left with 4 books not just one :-) Once she reads this book, I know you will have a new fan! As you will have with my sister-in-law. One of her Christmas gifts is the Bedwyn series (to date) and A Summer to Remember. Her birthday gift next year will be the remaining three books. I am a devoted fan of your writing. Your characters have an emotional depth that draws me into their lives. I care what happens to them. During the past year, I have collected and read (and re-read) all of your books. I am missing a few of the short stories. Is there any possibility of posting a list of the titles and the anthologies they were published in? Thank you, Leigh McKenzie Cantonment, FL

If it were possible to get a copy of something not yet released I'm sure my friend would be blown away, but I know this is extremely unlikely. I suppose the key element here is "before Christmas". I thought about contacting Sian, but I know she has little time for anything other than school. If you can help in any way I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You, Happy Holidays, and please give my best to yout truly amazing daughter. Sincerely, Jay S.

HI Mary: I love the Bedwyn family and am dying for the next 3 books, especially Slightly Dangerous Wulfric's story. May I ask you if Wulfric's mistress has a major role to play in his story? Is she good or bad? I have read many of your books, but I think my favorites concern christmas, whether a complete story like the Christmas Promise or short stories such as the ones in Under the Mistletoe. You are a wonderful storyteller with great heart and I truly enjoy your work!! Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season. D

Dear Mary, I think I have read every book and story of yours that has been published. If I haven't, it hasn't been for lack of effort. I love your stories. I love your characters. Every one is a "keeper." I read several of them over and over again. The Bedwyns are great, but you spoiled us by coming out with the first 3 so close together. How can we wait for the next 3? I see below that some people don't like that Wulf's story will be in hardback. I don't mind, and I disagree with them. I think the price of paperbacks has gotten out of hand, and I'd rather buy a hardback because it will last. Plus, you can usually get a new hardback for at least 40% off at BJs, COSTCO, and other wholesale discounters. Having a good book that will last is worth the slight difference in price. Thanks--keep writing and I'll keep buying and reading and re-reading.

As an avid reader and future editor of romances, I truly feel blessed to have at long last broken down and read a Mary Balogh book. I read "Slightly Wicked" first, and am now finishing "Slightly Scandalous". I just bought "Slightly Married" and can't wait to begin it. I will eventually have to read "A Summer to Remember" even though Kit is not my favorite character at this point due to my current attachment to Freyja. I must say that Mary Balogh is a genious to leave Wulf's story for last... I anticipate it as the best of the series and I am totally enthralled by Wulf's character. I can't wait! Thanks for making my moments with a book and a cup of tea so much more enjoyable, Mary!

I have never been one for romance novels, but I found myself in Wal Mart the other day, with nothing to do for the next two hours stranded in the nearest town to my home. So I picked up a book that happened to be Slightly Married. I started reading it and I couldn't put it down. I loved it! I just got finished with it last night, well because school got in the way of my reading.:( Anyways I rushed onto the internet to see if and when all the other Bedwyn books came out, I was especially anxious to read Wulf's story. When I saw that it wouldn't be released until June I was sad, but that way it will be out just in time for my birthday, so what a great birthday present!! I just wanted to say how great of a writer you are, and tonight I'm going back to Wal Mart to get the other Bedwyn books!! Thank you so much for writing such interesting novels!:) Kate

Dear Mary - I was fortunate enough to discover your books (The first one I ever read was "More than a Mistress") about a month ago. I was unfortunate enough to have been on exam leave at the time... I actually went out and got the first 3 books in the Bedwyn series, and found that the temptation to read them instead of studying was so strong that I had to get my sister to hide the books from me until after I finished my exams! I would really like to obtain copies of most (or all) or your backlist. Unfortunately this seems to be very difficult, and I am extremely worried that being in New Zealand puts me at a disadvantage in finding and purchasing, copies of your books. PLEASE reassure me that the remaining 3 books in the Bedwyn series will be distributed in New Zealand. Thank you so much for creating such wonderful books.

Dear Mary I wish to second Jennifer Spiller's paean to your wonderful writing and to also thank you for helping me through a year of serious depression. I had reached the state where my self-pity was seriously skewing my determination to remain in this dark, unlovely world when I realised that by topping myself I would be depriving myself of the joy of reading your new series. Yep, life is hard, but then you get to read a new Mary Balogh! So thank you Mary, for being better than the Samaritans. For making me laugh, and cry, and enjoy life again. I hope to be reading your wonderful books for many more years to come. Yes, even in hardback - fans notwithstanding, authors have to eat too! I have No Man's Mistress and A Summer To Remember in hardback and will definitely be buying Wulfric's story in HB too. I have most of your backlist (I had to have something to do while waiting for the Simply series) and think it would be a fine thing if they were reissued so those present readers could also have a chance to sample your extensive oeuvre. and yes, please, more translations to Italian, it would definitely help me in my fledgling studies! some questions - all your characters are so very different. Did being a teacher and coming in contact with such a variety of people influence you in character development? And as Ms Tamblyn asked, do you prefer Canada to Wales? I like Wales, but then I've never been to Canada. Would you consider writing some more stories set in Georgian times? I really loved Heartless and Lucas's sense of style! I'm so glad your have fans who are men too. In my opinion your writing is just as good as Jane Austen's, and I don't see why a romance written 2 centuries ago is considered suitable for male consumption, whereas one written in the last few decades is deemed fit only for females. Are women supposed to have less astute brains? or men are not interested in relationships at all? I think not. I read sci-fi, war, crime and thrillers too, so think it's a shame men on the whole aren't disposed to try out a good romance and be pleasantly surprised. Thank you for everything again, sincerely rowie

Hello Ms Balogh, I recently have become a fan of your writing. 'Pride and Prejudice' has been my fav book though I love all JA's works but after having given up looking for a proper sequel to P&P I discovered 'Not Just A Mistress.' I found intelligence, wit, flesh and blood characterization, and imaginative plotting. Then I went on to 'No Man's Mistress' and your Bedwyn series. I am particularly looking forward to the woman who weds Wulfric. It seems he waits until all his responsibilities are married off. It's delicious waiting. I'll almost be sorry to read it. Almost. Are there any plans to reprint your out of print, earlier novels? There should be they are hard to find and highly priced on ebay when they do appear. Thank you, GCG

I really enjoy your writing. Your heros and heroines are not all beautiful and handsome. They are ordinary people and some not quite "perfect". You make me feel like I am inside the characters, feeling their emotions. Not too many other authors I have read are able to do this. I am busy trying to find and read your earlier books. Sometimes the earilier ones seem too shot. You hate to see them end. I'm looking forward to your new books in 2004. Thanks Becky

Hello: You have inspired me to write more. I am an amateur author, mostly of poetry, but I have a true inspiring story about Sister and am trying to get it published by a magazine or such. I envey you and your talent. we have a little in common :- My mother's name was Mildred too and she was born in Saskatchewan. I also had one sister very close in age to myself. The title of my story is "Sister's are a Gift from God", I wondered if you could give me a direction to turn to for publishing? It has been through the "Chicken Soup for the Sister's Soul" a few years back and even though it was chosen within the top 100 stories did not get published. Thanks and keep writing!! Dear Mary, I just received your newsletter about upcoming books. It was disappointing to see that wulfric's story is to be printed in hardcover. Why do this in the midst of a series? Was this your choice or the publisher's? Does this mean that we have to wait a year for the paperback version, as we have done with past releases? I find it very unfair to your fans who can't afford the hardcover price. Your books are so well received that our bookstore has a hard time keeping the shelves stocked in paperbacks, the hardcovers don't move as fast. Sincerely, Debbie

And yours do not have that formulaic aspect that so many others do. Your newsletter said you would be appearing in Washington in November. Is that the city or state? Is it an open event? I would enjoy hearing you speak. Regards! A thoroughly entertained reader

After losing her baby, her husband, and becoming lame, she certainly deserves a little happiness. And it would certainly make an interesting storyline to see if some gentleman could breach her insecurities and her fear of risking love again. I think she would make a wonderful heroine, and I hope you would consider doing a book about her. Thanks for all the great stories you have given us over the years. I am especially looking forward to Wulfric's story. Please keep writing! A fan for thirty years

I have been reading your books since I first found them in Signet editions. You are definitely one of 'those' authors I by by name, not title. Please hurry with Wulfric's story. Please find him a lost (perhaps widowed)love from his youth. He definitely needs someone on his social level, not because he is a snob, but because he he believes in the responsibility of his position. Thank you for bringing so much pleasure into my life.

Mary, as someone who has reviewed your books and learned from you and benefited from your generosity on more than one occasion, I just wanted to tell you that I sold my first historical romance, ISLAND OF DESIRE, to Extasy Books. It will be published soon as an e-book at their site. I'll be writing as Carol Storm, out of respect for the traditions of the romance genre, which as you once said is "women's literature" at it's finest. But I just wanted to say that without the help and encouragement of great authors like you I never would have made the journey from fan to writer. Thank you so much!

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how much I enjoy your books. I've been a fan since you published your very first Regency, almost 20 years ago! One of the things I love about your writing is your marvelous character development. Even your secondary characters come alive. For example, I felt for poor Louisa Knapp, the "ideal mate" for an officer, who lost Aidan in "Slightly Married," even though she appeared on only a few pages of the book. Is there any chance we'll be seeing her again? And Lady Muir and Sydnam from "A Summer to Remember" deserve happiness, too! Thanks for the wonderful stories, and I'm looking forward to your next book.

Mary, I am somewhat perplexed by the concept that romance novels are "fiction for women." My wife passed a couple of them on to me a couple of years ago, and I have read little else since then. I even started a mailing list on the subject, looking for more references/recommendations. When asked for a list of favorite authors, one of the members of my list put you at the top of her list. I went to the library and checked out More Than a Mistress and No Man's Mistress because they were available and together on the shelf. Before I embarked on the journey of writing this message, I printed out a list of all of your novels and stories. I intend to read every one of them that I can find. More Than a Mistress was one of the finest works of fiction literature that I have ever read, and No Man's Mistress was first class, too. Thank you for giving me so much entertainment in less than two days of reading. Dan Dan Deckert dandeckert @ comcast.net "Everyone's entitled to my opinion." http://home.comcast.net/~dandeckert

This is my first time writing to an author even though I am an avid reader. I just finished "A Summer to Remember" along with the three "Slightly" books. Your characters have come alive to me and knew that Morgan and Alleynes' stories would soon follow, but I am most especially interested in Wulfric's. I am thrilled to know that his story is in the works. I just knew that there would be a special someone to light up his ice cold eyes and bring his hidden warm heart to the forefront. I cannot wait for his story! I am also wondering about a couple of characters from the first book "A Summer to Remember." Would there be stories for Kit's brother Sydnam Butler, as well as the widowed Lady Muir (I have forgotten her first name)? I felt such a sadness for the tragic events that led to Sydnam's disfigurement and at Lady Muir's young widowhood, along with her limp, that I really wish to see their lives resolved into a happily ever after. I am now in the process of looking up some of your other titles. Thank you so much for your time. And...happy writing!!

I would just like to write to thank you for all the wonderful work that you have done. I have read nearly every one of your books and await eagerly for the next lot. I still have a few that need to be tracked down. With regards to the "Slighly" series, out of curiosity, does Gwen from "A Summer to Remember" and "One Night for Love" appear again. I would love to hear about her life and was curious as to whether she appears in Wulfrics book as his other half. If not does Gwen meet someone to love as I seem to be reading her as someone who didn't have the type of marriage that everyone has taken it to believe. An Wulfric is the deep person that has more than what we have seen so far. Again, thank you. I love reading and re-reading books from, I would have to say, an Author who is up there with the best. It is great to read books from right from the beginning and know that the style has changed but not greatly and someone who writes but does not feel that the last book in a series has to be "just" finished. All your books are just great. A keen fan Julie

I read the Bedwyn series and loved them so much that I sought out your other books. I just finished the series about the four horsemen (Indiscreet, Unforgiven, and Irresistable). I didn't think I would find characters that I enjoyed as much as the Bedwyns, but I was wrong. I fell in love with Rex, Ken, Eden, and Nathaniel... Nathaniel being my favorite. Thank you for such wonderful stories.

I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your books tremendously! I'm very upset because I just became a fan of yours with the Bedwyn series and would like to read your first books, but they are out of print. As much as I love your books, my husband would murder me if I spent forty dollars on a book that takes me an hour to read! Do you know of any used books stores that I could find them for cheaper? I know this sounds very rude, so please forgive me! Thank you and please keep those books coming!

That book happened to be Slightly Wicked. I became instantly intrigued by the Bedwyns and ran to the book store when I got home and bought: A Summer to Remember, Slightly Married, and Slightly Scandalous. I am just about done with Slightly Scandalous therfore found this website to find out when I could expect the next book to be released. I just discovered the Bedwyn family. What fabulous characters. They set the standard that not everyone has to be beautiful to be loved or popular---but money does help. After I read Aiden's story I rushed out to the book store and grabbed up Rannulf and Freyja's books. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that Wulfric's story wasn't next. I'm afraid by the time you get around to him, he will be pushing 40 years old. He shows us glimpses of sensitivity and passion beneath that oh-so-proper-Duke. I hope you give him a woman who will stand up to him and show him how to unwind a little. It's times like this I wished I could read your mind just so I would know what you have in store for Wulf. Love that character! Can't wait for the next installment of the Bedwyn's.

I usually stop reading when I realize that a book is a sequal and wait until all of them are in print, I like to get to know the characters and read one book right after another. Your books are far too interesting and I just can't do that, I've read about the Bedwyens and am keeping all the books so that when the next one comes out I can start from the beginning and read them all again. All I ask is that you consider writing a bit faster so that Wulfric's story won't be such a long time in coming!

Having come across the very interesting Bedwyn family and thinking I had read everything written about them, imagine my elation to find them once again in your series! Bravo! Surely even the King must secretly tremble in Wulfric's presence to see such an icy gaze directed at anyone! And yet, you've shown us his capacity to melt in the presence of innocence. Your readers, myself included, have such high expectations of you--always!--and I wonder if you ever are the least bit daunted by it? You are, indeed, a true mistress of this art and well-loved for it! I search avidly on Ebay for the books I haven't had a chance to read yet and even the oldest are wonderful reads. Having retired last year after 30 years of teaching high school English, I've thought about trying my hand at some writing. While you inspire me, I fear I couldn't begin to come up to the standard you've set. Do you actually pen your manuscripts, or do you use a computer? I seem to need to put the pen to paper so far. And, as you can easily see, I would really need to come up with a pen name!! Yours in admiration, Cee

My sister and I were so thrilled that you had 3 books out that we could "hoard" for our summer vacation. In anticipation, we re-read "A Summer to Remember", which I loved just as much as reading it the first time. I again remembered my dislike of the Bedwyn family, especially Freja. How wonderful that you've written their stories so beautifully that you can like them as people. Color me amazed - even Freja. We look forward to Morgan, Alleyne's & especially Wulfric's stories as well. But I cannot resist - what about Lady Gwen? She seems a mystery just crying out to be told, and a woman who needs to have her own love story - and of course no one does it better than Mary Balogh.

I found one of your books by accident, Slightly Scandalous. I loved it so much that I went online and bought every book I could by you. So I ended up reading the Bedwyn series backwards. I was bummed when I ran out of them, but I am looking forward to the remainder of the series. There was one character that was introduced first in One Night for Love, Neville's sister, Gwen. Are you planning on writing her story? I think there is more to her than a tragic riding accident and the tragic death of her husband. This is my theory: Gwen's husband , Vernon...Lord Muir, I believe was actually an abusive husband. It supposedly was a love match, but I think Gwen found out (probably on the wedding night) that he was a very cruel and jealous man. I think he caused the riding accident so that she would lose the baby. Maybe he, in his jealousy thought it wasn't his, or maybe he was just jealous of the child in particular. I think his accident in actuality was really a physical argument at the top of the stairs and she pushed him away, not realizing the banister was loose...or maybe she did? Anyway, you have dropped several hints in the books that what others believed about the marriage wasn't really true. She never confirms others' assumptions that she adored her husband. I also think that maybe she will get together with Kit's brother Sydnam; two broken people who need love. Or was there something starting in Slighly Scandalous? I can't remember if it was an impression or more...I read them all so fast, now I will have to go back and read them again in order. Maybe after I have read the final three in the series. I love Regency romances, they are my favorite historical romances/novels. You are particularly adept at bringing one into the story. I get very involved with your characters, they become friends. I love that you do series so that we can see what happens, even if slightly, to our favorite characters. This is my first official fan letter to any author or anyone at all. I just got so caught up in your novels that I had to tell you how much I loved reading them. I also would love to hear if you are planning to write Gwen's story and if I'm at all close to what you see her to be too. Sincerely, Diane

Ms. Balogh, I have just spent a wonderful July, on a chaise longue by the pool, reading the “Slightly” series. I have been a fan of yours for…well for a long time, but this series is magnificent. You have the magic to make your characters come to life; they become, for me, real. I appreciate the way you make your characters neither too good to be true nor so evil as to be unredeemable. My personal favorites are ‘Priscilla Wentworth’ (A Precious Jewel) and Freya Bedwyn. I maybe a little in love with both although they are on the surface quite different. I hope that you will continue to add “updates” on the Bedwyns, and if Freya ever gives birth she should break Josh’s nose in the process, and then be properly apologetic. Everyone seems to have designs on ‘Wulf’, I trust you, and you have never failed. But, how about Mrs. Muir and Sydnam Butler, they need a happy ending. Thanks you once again for the hours of entertainment you have provided

My Dear Ms. Balogh - I have been a fan of yours for many years. You have brought me so much pleasure, and I have shed more than a few tears over many of the plot lines in your books. Your sensitivity and ability to make your readers feel your heroine's pain is really something. Anyway - I just found your website and thought I would drop you a note. You don't know how many times I have thought of you over the years and how much enjoyment I have derived from your books. Ms. Balogh In HEARTLESS you appear to be setting up two characters as protagonists for a future novel. I am alluding to Emily and Ashley. Did you ever get to write that story? I suspect that such a work would be quite challenging...and interesting. If you did get to do the job, could you give me the title of the book. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who thought of Wulf! Although I liked Aidan's story and LOOOOOVED Rannulf's I was very dissapointed in Freyja's. Not at all what I expected. But anyway I was very glad that we discovered more depth to Wulf's character. He intrigued me since the first book although he was portrayed as some sort of high almighty snob. In the following books we have gotten to know him better and I just know that he deserves to be happy; I'm very intrigued in the kind of person he is and what he thinks and dreams. I'm sure we will see a lot of his hidden passionate nature in his story! One of the things that I liked most about your books is your ability to create characters that are not one dimmensional. They are humans with a depth of character, not completely white or black and Wulf is a prime example of this! Finally, let me tell you that I was sure that with all the attention that Wulf was getting from your readers you will leave him for the end!

Mary, I loved all your books that I have read. I can't find The Trysting Place or The Wood Nymph at a reasonable price on the used book sites. Would these ever be re-released? My library connections dont have them either and I see they are part of sequels. I'm glad to see that you thought Kit's brother should have a story. I look forward to reading it. PS. My favorite book is the Temporary Wife, what is yours?

Hello! I am a huge fan of yours and enjoy your books immensely. I have recently spent way too much money on eBay buying your hard to find back list! I am an aspiring writer and have joined a writing group to pursue that dream. My group, South Australian Romance Writers (SARW) Inc. have just incorporated and we are publishing a newsletter for our members. I am the editor of this newsletter and would greatly appreciate it if you would consider being interviewed for our newsletter. I feel your views would be inspirational and encouraging to our membership of predominantly unpublished writers. We do not have a large readership at present, but I feel this will change in the coming years. Please let me know if you would be amenable to this. If you are, I will send you a list of questions. Feel free to answer only those you are comfortable with. Thank you for taking the time to read this! Yours sincerely Cassie Wilson Publications Editor SARW Inc.

I was recently in Florida staying with my sister for an extended stay and she had some of your books from the library. I started reading them and couldn't put them down.I found your website to find other titles of yours to get. I read all I could while I was there and there were only a couple of your books here in Ok. in the library. I started purchasing the new "slightly" series, thank goodness I work at Sam's and can get them when they come in. I absolutely love your books. My sister had threatened to take them away so I would get some sleep. haha. I am searching all the bookstores for your older books to read. Is there a place to find some of your older books? Anyway, I LOVE your books and am going to read anything I can find that has your name on it. Thanks for giving me these wonderful romantic (can't put down) books to read in my free time. I make free time now or read half the night away. I love that time period, so great to live it with these characters, since I couldn't be lucky enough to be born then myself. I will enjoy your books immensely. You are great!!! Thanks again!! Patti

Well it's me again Mary :-) Since I'm new to your web site please be patient with me. I just noticed you will be in New York in July and will do a book signing. I have a sinking feeling I missed you but could you please tell me what date you'll be signing and also if you will be coming to Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts or New York (again) in the near future. I would dearly love to get your autograph. THANKS!! And P.S. to my 1st letter to you.......I (along with others I'm sure) feel that Wulf neeeeeeedddddddsss a 'new' lady in his life (not his mistress) and she should indeed be either "above" him or sooooooooo below him that she wouldn't give him the right time of day. A very tender moment comes to my mind from Lady Freya's story. Wulf was in his study about to speak with Joshua when one of Aidens children......the little girl.....snuck in. She just climbed onto Wulf's lap as if she had every right to, acutally played with his "eye" monocle and although he seemed tensed while poised I FELT he was enchanted and melting inside. Can his future 'bride' have the same effect on him but in a different way?? And could she be so un-obtainable that his calm would crack forcing him to be a bit outrageous in breaking his own character?? Just some food for thought. You are MARVELOUS!! And as un-forgettable as your characters. Keep smiling and know that you are loved!! Love and Light Martha (Marti) DelVecchio

Dear Mary Balogh I'm happy to have the opportunity to sign your guest book. I LOVE the "slightly" series and CAN'T WAIT for Wulf's story. He is the one I am most intrigued about although I truly cherish each character you have written about so far. You truly have a 'gift' for making your characters come alive and for making each story interesting and hard to 'walk away from'. I'm sure Morgans and Alleyn's stories will be just as memorable.......but.......... Wulf's story CAN'T come out soon enough for me (ha ha ha ha). I am hoping and praying that his story will portray him being a bit more sardonic, a bit more of a 'calculating rogue' for I really think he has it in him. I love the stories of 'old'.....the forceful, manipulating (almost selfish) "I will have her at all costs" type of characters and for some reason Wulf sure seems to have it in him even though he is caring and loving for his family. I would suspect it would take a very un-usual woman to get beneath Wulf's seemingly calm exterior and he could sure use a 'thorn' to *** his thick aristocratic hide! :-) I'm sure whatever you do will be perfect and I THANK YOU for the countless hours of entertainment and LOVE you have brought into my life with your beautiful, romantic heart and talents. GOD BLESS YOU MARY BALOGH!! Love and Light Martha (Marti) DelVecchio

Dear Mary, I was not originally too enthused to read Freyja's story, but bought your book anyway to keep up to date with the other Bedwyns. This is your best yet! You took a fairly unlikable character (even the villain in a Summer to Remember) and made her human, noble and beautiful. Your dialogue and character interaction are superb! And I love the fact that the Bedwyns and their loves are faithful and not tainted with infidelities and a flock of bastard children. I guess the pressure's on with Wulf's story since everyone seems to have an idea of the woman he deserves. Please don't let it be his mistress. He deserves more than a doormat. I know some of your readers would like him to follow the lead of Aidan and Rannalf and marry below his title, but I think the only woman who could put him in his place would be someone ABOVE his station.

I AM HOOKED. I started with slightly scandalous then backtraked to the stories of Aidan and Ralf. I have yet to find a summer to remember. I am waiting breathlessly for the remaining three stories. Especially the one that will bring the proud Duke of Bewcastle to his knees. I can just imagine what the young lady will do to cause him to raise his voice. Just my luck though he will be the last one because he was such an integral part of everyone's lives. The softy underneath the outer shell of cold hard stone. Wow. I have done a lot of laughing and a little crying during the reading of these books. You have made the people int these books more than just a character. They are alive. Thank you for the most enjoyable reads.

I was wondering when you came to Canada, land of mountains and seas? Of course as it is my homeland I am rather partial to Canada and feel that you must be very happy to have emigrated here. I met you in More Than a Mistress; superb book. Went hunting for more. I actually liked LONGING the BEST of all your books thus far. Second is Truly. You have great sense of place, history and character development, probably because you were raised there. I taught high school English language and literature for 20 years--LONGING is your best writing. Never started reading romances till I retired, and am enjoying the relaxing read I get. Although I am picky. The writing has to be of SOME quality. I also liked Tangled. I wish more romance authors would attempt the Victorian era. The so-called "supressed sexuality" could set up for tremendous sexual and romantic tension of a different type than the Regency period. Your Bewcastle series has been excellent too. Must be hard to sustain, but you have done the job. Dying to read Wulfric's story. Please ask your publisher to consider republishing LONGING if possible. With a bigger fan base at this point in your career, it might have a better reception. Heartless of very good too. Best wishes and happy writing!

Romance writers are so predictable - and that's partly why I love your books. I just finished reading A Summer to Remember and I knew that you couldn't pass up the chance to give them stories of their own. At least, I sincerely hoped that you couldn't. So I visited your website and am quite excited to discover that not only could you not resist but that three of the books are already written. Thanks!

I can honestly say that I have been a loyal reader since 1993, when I first read "Dancing with Clara". I was hooked then, and I am still hooked. I grew up reading in high school Georgette Heyer's books, and I hold you in her catagory. You have brought me great joy in these eleven years. I have taken you along in my single years, when I was stressed being a new mother and when I was stressed with a new job and a mouthy twelve year old daughter! Through good times, poor times, no job, good jobs, your books have always been there for me. I know many people do not truly appreciate the regency period, but I do, and I am a "modern African American woman." However, no matter my race and culture, I have always enjoyed you taking me back to a girl's first ball, first waltz, first kiss. Reading your books, such as "dancing with clara", precious jewel, the "web series" tempting harriet, "notorious rake" and now your "slightly" series have been my true joys in life. I was so proud when you went to hardback with your mistress series, and I hope you continue to write after your Bedwyns! Many authors are turning to contemporary, like Joan Wolf, but I hope Ms. Balogh that you contine to write your regencies. We need them, and we need you. As readers, we can always pick up a contemporary romance, or turn on the t.v. for one, or rent a video. However, no one can bring to life that regency period like you can. And when I come home from a rough day at work, and I still havent made dinner, and the kid's need help with homework, and my husband is waiting for his "turn" it is sooooooo comforting to pick up one of your books, when everything is done, and the children and husband are "tucked in", then it's my turn. And I pick you up and you take me on a glorious trip to London, and I am in Hyde Park strolling with all the beau mode, or I am waiting patiently for that handsome, rake to walk over and take my hand for a waltz, or just getting refreshment at Gunthers! I love your trips, plots, weddings and births "gift of daisies" remember that book? I remember them all! Thank you, thank you, please never forget that we readers appreciate those trips you take us on. I may never go to England, and I will never have a comeout at Almacks, but I can and I did with you. With much thanks, Dierdre Watkins Dallas, Texas

I do that with authors I really enjoy. I can't wait to read about Morgan, Alleyne, and especially Wulfric. He caught my heart when I read about him in "Slightly Married." Can't wait to see him discover he has a heart. I would also like to know if there is a book that follows "Heartless" that tell of "Emily" and "Ashley" and of course "Doris"? See, I told you I love your books.

Your latest Bedwyn book about Freyja was your best so far. I was beginning to get frustrated with the altogether "proper" attitudes of the characters - refusing to accept love as if it was below their station in life. Freyja and Josh were somewhat doing the same thing, but then your ending was a wonderful surprise. Josh Moore was willing to throw off the facade and more easily accept that he was in love. Also, your portrayal of Josh as a nice and personable man instead of a stuffy and distant peer made it much more palatable to see his subjects come to his rescue. Finally, besides the romance, Free's book adds a taste of justice on legal and moral levels. Nice additions. Keep up the great work Mary. Thanks for the entertainment. P.S. - Like your other fans, I look forward to Wulf's story, but I'm glad that Morgan is next. I think I'm already in love with her if she is supposed to be as pretty as Lauren Edgewood.

I was so very pleased to find out that Morgan's and Alleyne's stories are already done and waiting to be published and that you are working on Wulf's story! Thank you, thank you, thank you. The Bedwyn Saga is gripping. I'm so glad that there are six of them to hear about. I have read both Slightly Married and Slightly Wicked twice--once quickly, then again slowly to savor what I know is coming. I can hardly wait to see what kind of women pierces Wulf's defenses. From the looks of the guest book, I'm not the only one who has become enamored of your icy duke. I love your talent at creating such vibrant, well defined characters so the reader is convinced that they really exist. The clearly drawn supporting cast also enhance that reality of the main characters and of the story. Do you plan to write about Aiden's and Eve's children? What about Ned Bateman? He is only talked about but I can imagine that he has quite a story to tell. What about Judith's sisters? What about the return of Bramwell in 10 or 15 years? Or will you be tired of inhabiting this family by the time you are finished with number six? Thanks for the wonderful stories. Linda Madlung

Hello, I've recently had your books recommended to me to my delight. I've read quite a few and am happily looking for your backlist. What I'm wondering is if you are indeed attending the Romance Writer's of America Convention in New York City coming up in a few weeks? It says you are on your Newsletter, but I notice that your name is not on the list of authors recently put up on the RWA site? I sincerely hope you are, because I would love to have some of my books autographed and to meet you. I've enjoyed your books so much, the research, the rich characters and I've learned so much about Regency England. Another thing, they are so beautifully written with emotion that I invariably end up crying, I become so engaged with the characters. Currently, I'm waiting for Silent Melody, I can't WAIT to see the transformation of the love affair. Also, I'm dizzy with delight trying to imagine what kind of heroine Wulfric will meet his match with. That must be SO fun to write. We've had so many glimpses into his charcter and he IS very daunting. Thank you so much for many hours of pleasure. Sincerely, Peggy S. Mitchell

I am currently reading Slightly Scandalaous and have read all the Slightly books that are out to date. I alos read A Summer to Rememember. I am in love with this series. I am eagerly awaiting Wulfric's story. he is so intriguing as a character and i think when he falls in love it will be amazing. I have a feeling that you will be saving the best for last though and that it will be a while. Sigh. My favorite so far has been Kit's story.

I am an aspiring writer myself, but I am leaning toward inspirational, contemporary romance. I just love the way you set the scenes for your books - especially the English countryside! I have never been to England but feel like I have from reading the Bedwyn series. I have also read 'No Man's Mistress' and loved it! Debbie Fitts

I couldn't put them down until I finished all of them. I love inter-related family stories with friends and these with excellently written. I read the other comments on this page and I also cannot wait for the other 3 stories of the remaining Bedwyn siblings, especially Wulf. Also, Lady Muir and Syd Butler need a happy ending. Dear Ms. Balogh: Before I bought all of your Bedwyn Series, I have only bought 1 romance novel in my entire life. I want to let you know that the Bedwyn family you've created have been the most fun, most enigmatic, and most unforgetabble. I can't wait for the next three to come out. Hopefully, you are not going to pull a J.K. Rowling on us and have us wait three years before the next book comes out. I truly appreciate your writting. Your books are so good that I can re-read them over and over and never get tired of them. Some of your characters can be called cliches, but you make them work. I don't know how, but you make them work and make them endearingly unforgettable. Thank you so much for writing. A fan, Linda

I discovered romances late in life (my 50's). You were the first author I read. It was a story in a Christmas anthology I found in a UBS. I didn't even know what a Regency was at the time. That led me to a bookstore to find your newest book which at that time was Silent Melody. I have now read it several times. The last few years have been spent finding and reading your older books as well as most of your newer ones. I've thoroughly enjoyed your current series and look forward to meeting the rest of the family next year!

Loved all three Bedwyn books. But please tell us you have something in mind for Wulfric. I've never before encountered a fictional character with more potential depth, but who needs to meet someone who is strong-willed, intelligent, and unwilling to put up with any pretension, who will knock him off his pedestal and make him the passionate, less-controlled man he could be. I only vaguely considered the character until Freyja's story, but the scene you had where the little girl climbed up into his lap caught my heart. It showed a vulnerability and sense of longing that had not shown previously. But now this character definitely deserves a book of his own.

Just finished a total emersion in the Mary Balogh world--reread A Summer to Remember, just to meet the characters again, and then the 3 Slightly Books. The tensions, the complexity of character, and the wonderfully worked out themes are just marvelous. I very much enjoy the groups of books in which a character who is, shall we say, not so admirable in one book becomes an understandable protaganist in another. Also want to comment--scanning through I saw someone did not care for Tangled. I have read it several times, and find it extremely interesting, complex, intriguing and, well, tangled. Readers, please do not be put off, it is well worth it. Thanks again and again. I've already preordered your Mistletoe collection.

I wrote to you a few months ago after I had "discovered" you with "More Than a Mistress" and "Silent Melody." Now I have in my collection several of your books which I have enjoyed very, very much. After reading "A Summer to Remember," I was dismayed to learn you had started a series about the Bedwyn brother and sisters. "How could you do that?" I wondered. They weren't nice people. They were cold, arrogant, and not even particularly handsome or beautiful. I have just finished all three of the Bedwyn books, and now I'm really dismayed to learn I must wait several months for the next one. Oh, how I am looking forward to what you must have in store for Wulfric -- he has become my favorite. Mrs. Balogh - Thank you so much for you wonderful books! Recently, I have been bored by "the same old" romance novels. My Mom gave me the Bedwyn series, and I cannot put them down. I can not wait to see what you have in store for Bewcastle. The other reason I am writing is while I was reading Slightly Married I had a story idea. I am not a writer, so I thought you could do something with this idea. Also, please know that I can plainly see that you can come up with your own idea's. I just thought this was cute, and could be really fun. Here it is...3 or 4 best girl friends that are always finding trouble. You could even have one of them try to get Bewcastle to smile on a dare. I will go no further, because I am sure you can think of a million things the girls can get into. I have just never seen this done, and I think you are a wonderful writer that could do this justice. Thank you again, for the hours of pleasure. It has been a long time since I found a romance novel I could read past the 50th page. You always have me hooked by about page 5, if not 1! Thanks, Cathy Pelissier

Apparently, as with many of your readers, I am curious to hear Wulfric's story. He's such a wonderful, haughty aristocrat. Slightly Married is my favorite to date. Possibly because the characters were quiet people and there was less dialogue between them, made their words, somehow, more valuable. I had a great cry over the last twenty or so pages. Maggie Osbourne is a favorite author of mine especially Silver Lining. Lorraine Heath, too, with Texas Glory. For me, you own the British title. Thanks for writing. Holly

Mrs. Balogh, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your books. I adore the Regency period, and you give such an emotional, poignant touch to your characters that I'm just mesmerized by them. I'm a high-school English teacher, and I find your books a cut above the usual Regency offerings out there. I love that you give them such an original touch because you live in Great Britain, and you understand what you're writing about. I'd love to be a romance writer, but I just can't seem to get the plot, characters, etc., to paper. I'm a much better poet than a novelist. I'd love to know when the next of the Bedwyn novels is coming out. I CAN NOT wait until you put out the one with Wulf as the main character! That one will be incredible--I just know it! Now, I'm just guessing, but will his love be the teacher at the school that Freyja sponsors? That would be great for Wulf to fall in love with a commoner! One final question--how do you pronounce "Freyja"? I was saying "Free-ya" in my mind, but I'm really curious to know what you intended. Thank you so much for reading this. Again, I just find your books so satisfying. I'm going to find as many of your earlier works as I can! Sincerely, Laurie Griffin

Dear Mrs. Balogh, Since I read More Than A Mistress nearly a year ago, I have been a fan. I am enjoying the Bedwyn series enormously, and am waiting with bated breath for Wulfric's story. He is so self-contained, I cannot wait to see a woman push him out of his shell! I have a feeling his fall will be the hardest, just as the wait - his is the last story, I understand, as is fitting - will be the hardest! :) However, because Morgan was more of an active character in Slightly Scandalous, I did detect an intriguing complexity to her that I am impatient to read more about. :) I was just visiting your website to get your backlist, lol, and thought that I would drop you a note to tell you how much I admire your talent and to keep up the good work! :) No reply is necessary. I just finished Slightly Scandalous a few minutes ago, and I was so pleased with the novel that I thought I'd drop you a line. Well done! The prose of this book was witty and had me giggling and grinning throughout. Joshua and Freyja were remarkable characters; so well rounded, so human, so likeable. I think what I found most impressive was how you captured that love comes from a deepening understanding of character, not a change in character. And although there was potential for melodramatic emotions (good god, a murderer?! a masher?! ), you resisted and let your characters look on the lighter side of life, in keeping with their natures. I loved it! It was the best of the series so far! Thanks!

Hello - I've never went to an author's site before, but I just had to tell you how much I enjoy your writing. Your stories and characters have such depth! I cannot wait for Wulf's story. I become more intrigued with his character in every book! Thank You for giving me an escape from reality.

Mary, I love your writing and have enjoyed the Slightly series for the past 3 months, don't know what I'll read now for the rest of the summer! Wish the others were ready already. I do have one suggestion. Would it be possible to put a pronunciation page in your books. For examples, I never know whether Bedwyn is pronounced Be-dywn or Bed-wyn. Sometimes there are other words which are also hard to decipher -- mostly names since they are unusual in today's society. Keep up the good work and have a nice summer.

Ms. Balogh, I have enjoyed your latest book "Slighty Scandalous". I hope that the Bedwyn family will continue until we see them all happily wed. I am already picturing the book about Wulfric. He is, after all, a softy at heart.:) I can not express the enjoyment that I have had in the hours spending reading your last 4 books. Please don't leave me in suspence for too long. Sincerely, Krendi Walls

I am an avid reader of all contemporary literature--I was an English major. I was introduced to romance novels only 2 years ago at the age of 50. You are my favorite romance author because your novels have a real story, are involving with character development, and the characters have great charisma and interaction/dialogue. I can't wait until the rest of the Bedwyn stories. Please write and publish often for your avid readers. It's probably hard to recommend other authors. But, do you have any suggestions of romance authors who write stories like yours with a story and some depth to the characters? Thank you, Jean Kaplan Dallas, Tx

Reading your wonderful books sometimes makes me wish for a time machine. I can close my eyes and imagine I'm strolling in the midst of an English garden, or waltzing in a glittering ton ballroom with a scandalous rogue. Many thanks for providing your readers with pages and pages of romantic dreams. Sandy

I have just finished the first 3 Bedwyn books. I was somewhat surprised that I liked Slightly Scandalous as much as I did, because I found Freyja to be such an unsympathetic character in A Summer to Remember. I can hardly wait for the last 3 books in the series to be published.

i have thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Bedwyns and have kept all books for future re-reading. Are any now planned for the remaining members of the family -- especially the Duke of Bewcastle. He's such an interesting character that he deserves something special being written for him. I look forward to reading your future books.
