I've been an avid reader for 40 years. You are my new favorite romance author! I've managed to find and read most of your books but I still love Slightly Married best of all. It seems more enjoyable when the main characters are working together rather than fighting each other. Many otherwise good stories are spoiled when the characters are mean and angry. I love nice manners. Thank you so much for continuing to write romance. Please don't give it up to write about serial killers as so many of my past favorites have.

I just finished "Beyond the Sunrise" and it was incredible. Your grasp of historical details about the Peninsula War was amazing. I know it must seem like a weird combination, but my favorite authors are yourself and Bernard Cornwell and his Richard Sharpe series. I could not help but think of Cornwell's Sharpe when I read about your Robert Blake. They were both officers who rose up from the ranks, they had distinctive battle scars on their face, they were not handsome but were still irresistably attractive, they were Captains during the battle of Bussaco, they were riflemen of the famous 95th Rifles, and they were one of Wellington's favorites. Did you and Bernard collaborate on "Beyond the Sunrise"? If you did, please keep it up! Your books have never disappointed me. Have safe and wonderful Holiday Season.

I loved the "Slightly" stories and was upset when the brought out Wolfs story in hard back first, since I keep my favorite books and reread them, I like them to be the same. (Okay I keep 99% of the books I get.) But The "Slightly" ones I will reread. I am looking forward to the "Simply" Books. Will they all come out in Hard back first? The Book One night for love is Lauren's Aborted wedding from a Summer to remember, isn't it? I started with Slightly married then went back to a Summer to Remember. I liked Irresistible also. I bought used but have not read yet Silent Melody. It sould be interesting. I usually pick up anything with your name on it so please don't stop writing.

Thank you for notifying me about your updated website. I'm very excited to hear about your new book coming out in April, 2005. I buy your new books as soon as they come out and unfortunately read them in one or two days, and then I have to wait another several months for your next book; I cannot force myself to read them over several days and prolong the pleasure. Either I'll have to re-read older books or you'll have to write faster! Seriously, thank you again for all your books--it is with great anticipation that I wait for April.

Having read the last of the 'Slightly' series I think you could succeed, Mary, in a side line hobby as a match maker. Each Bedwyn married their perfect mate. I thoroughly enjoyed picturing Wulfric being thawed by Christine, although after the dive into a freezing cold lake as part of his courting dance I wonder if 'thaw' was the right word! Congratulations on this very creative series. Each and every one was a most enjoyable read. And the finale touches an entertaining sublime!

Also I'm planning on reading the rest of the Sightly Booksm including "A Summer to Remember" and "Theif of Dreams". Just wondering, but do you have anymore books? Dear Mrs. Balogh! I love your books very much, all of them. They are a perfect way to relaxation and positive thoughts. I only wish our publishing companies follow some order in translations. :-) I guess it's some kind of torture to start your series, get emotionally involved - and... wait for sequels, not knowing the end of the story and guessing about characters' fates. Dear Mary Balogh, You are cordially invited to write an autobiographical essay for Contemporary Authors, an award-winning reference series providing biographical and bibliographical information on more than 100,000 modern novelists, poets, playwrights, nonfiction, and other writers. Published by the Gale Group, a major reference publisher whose titles include Contemporary Literary Criticism and Dictionary of Literary Biography, Contemporary Authors is marketed primarily to libraries. Each volume of Contemporary Authors contains approximately 325 sketches of writers in various fields and genres as well as three specially commissioned autobiographical essays by important current authors. Each essay, illustrated with personal photographs provided by the author, blends personal reminiscence with reflections on individual works in a way that provides both new insights for the researcher or student and lively reading for those simply interested in learning more about a favorite author. Common topics for the autobiographies include motivations for writing, the people and experiences that shaped their careers, the rewards derived from their work, and their impressions of the current literary scene. We ask for original, unpublished essays of ten thousand words (or approximately forty manuscript pages), although we are prepared to be flexible. In addition, writers supply six to eight personal photographs with the significant people, places, and events of their lives, beginning with a standard head and shoulders portrait of the author. While we request nonexclusive rights to each autobiography, the author retains the right to use the essay at any time and in any form. The author will receive $1000 upon acceptance of the autobiographical essay in addition to the exposure gained throughout the academic and public library market worldwide. Upon publication, the author will also receive one complimentary copy of the Contemporary Authors volume in which their autobiography appears. Many writers have viewed this as a stepping-stone to a larger work, later expanding their essay into book form. Other authors would never consider writing to book length but have found that this essay format serves their purpose well. If you are interested, a sample essay, further details, and a contract can be sent to you. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. (Normally I would provide my phone number, but as your guest book is public, e-mail will have to do.) To find out more about the Gale Group, please visit the Web site at www.gale.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Alana Joli Abbott Freelance Editor

I loved the Bedwyn series. Wulfric's story was the perfect ending. His book had me laughing out loud so many times. Sometimes there were tears in my eyes. He ended up with the perfect woman for him. Fredya (sp?) was a great woman. When she punched the old lady - I loved it! My Mom, sister, Aunt, and 2 friends have also read the Bedwyn's and everyone just loves them. I also enjoyed Tresham. When Jane made him talk to her like a person and the reaction of all of his friend's to Jane was hilarious. And the way you described his sister's hats was fabulous. Thanks for getting me back into reading again. Your books have provided me with many hours of pleasure.

I don't want to make this note very lengthy but I wanted to tell you how very much I enjoy your Bedwyn series of books. I stumbled across them one day while looking for something to read since Danielle Steel hadn't come out with anything lately. She used to be my favorite author because of her very strong female characters and how they handle adversity and always come out on top. I have found a new favorite now since I have read your "Slightly" series. Even though some of them are the stories of the men in the family there is still a very strong female character. Your emphasis on love and holding firm to ones principles and beliefs is what I enjoy most about you books and have drawn a lot of strength from in the last couple of months when I need it the most. Mine is a very long story indeed but I just wanted to thank you for writing such STRONG female characters and giving me the strength to listen to and follow my heart.

Hi! I find your books enthralling. I am a member of the Baby Boomers (born in 1946), rebellious againest the 50's but now old fashion. I think that men and women are equal BUT DIFFERENT. Women are the heart of the family, the power of the world. Men desperately need women to help them think things through, to cheer them on, to help them lick their wounds, to make them right or to hold them to high moral standards. Women have the talent to be in charge of and responsible for the "us" in relationships which calls for vision and discipline. I look around the world and I see women copying men. And of course, you can't be powerful in someone else's culture. I look around the world and see women living for their own personal interests instead of furthuring the good of the world. It is so refreshing to see the women in your books be powerful as women. If more women were powerful this way, just think how much better the world would be. Fish without mercury? Sustainable farming? Tons of low cost housing? Clean air over the Blue Ridge Mountains? Parenting skills required for every high school diploma? Coporate executive saleries reasonable in proportion to other workers? Let me know what you think, Mary. Thanks, Roberta

I am a high school librarian and have managed on Amazon.com to find all your books that are out of print so I now have everything you've written. I am rereading the Bedwyn series now and really look forward to the series about Miss Martin's school. Do you plan plots and characters ahead of time or do they develop as you go along? Perhaps a combination. Your characterization is so rich and the plots are complex and different, within the same Regency framework. You have given me a lot of pleasure. Thank you!! As I'm sure many people tell you, I'd like to try my hand at writing but feel very inadequate for such a task. Stephanie Laurens and Mary Jo Putney are my other favorites, but you're the best!

Ms Balogh, I've just finished the e-Book version of Slightly Dangerous and I am so totally satisfied yet ravenous for more. I thought that there was no humanity that could be given to the Wulfric character from the other books but you managed to totally flesh him out to 3 dimensions without ever betraying the character set up in the previous books. I haven't been half as caught up in a romance novel series since I ordered all the Georgette Heyer books and had them shipped overseas from the English publisher! Please keep writing prodigiously! One request: I just love underdogs. I'd love to read of a wonderful love affair between a plain, undersized man meets and has the adventure of his life with a plain, overlooked womwn -- and neither one is an aristocrat or beauty in disguise!!!

I count you among some of my favorite authors, romance or not. I must say that of all your heroes, Jocelyn touched my heart the most. I fell in love with him and was so happy that he found the woman of his dreams. The only quibble I have is that I felt cheated of his declaration of love before the ball where their marriage was announced. Jane announces she's pregnant, they must marry, and then ... nothing. It seemed like it couldn't be a good start to a marriage, but they seemed to get along fine. I had to scratch my head at that one. Either way, I enjoy your writing and hope you continue for a good long while.

I recently finished Slightly Dangerous and while all the characters were memorable, I think I have to say that Wulfric was my favorite. I am glad you gave him a good ending and Christine was just the woman to break his icy reserve and help him feel again as well as fall in love. Thanks so much for a great series, Sincerly, Carol McCarty

I introduced a friend to the Bedwyns, and she liked them very much also, but felt Wulfric's story had strong links to "Pride and Prejudice". I have read P and P several times, but had not made the connection until she mentioned it. I also wanted to let you know, in case you were not already aware of it, that PBS is doing a quasi-reality show called "Regency House", starting on Wednesdays in November. I usually avoid reality shows like the plague, but may give this one a shot. The PBS network we receive is KSPS Spokane, Wa.; I do not know what you receive in Saskatoon (though I suspect Detroit), or whether various PBS stations are running it. I suspect they may be. Best wishes, Susan Nimmo. (Now if I can just find out how to sent this properly - and I have also yet to figure out where the "reload" button is to re-read my entry. I am severly computer-challenged at times!)

Mary, I finished Wulfric's story about a month ago and I have to say I love it. It was great how you managed to take Wulf and turn him into a real person without my knowledge! All of a sudden, BAM, I'm thinking of him with sympathy and aching for him to say the right things! But it wasn't unbelievable at the same time. It was perfect! Thanks! The thing I really wanted to tell you was that you should write Christine's sister Eleanor's story! She really intrigued me and I would LOVE to read about her story. How much better could it get? A wounded woman who thinks she's lost to love, content to spend the rest of her life taking care of her mother?! It's perfect! I hope you think about it!! Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the time and effort you have put into writing your fine books. I've begun reading romance novels again, after not looking at them for about 30 years. I have been seeking authors who give more psychological depth to their characters. I also have a tolerance for moral ambiguity which seems to exceed that of some of the genre's conventions. The online reviews in "All About Romance" alerted me to your existence and sent me to your books. I have been so entertained by them, but have also conceived an intellectual admiration for the way they are made (though the making appears quite seamless, let me assure you). eBay has helped me get my hands on "Dancing With Clara," "A Precious Jewel," and "The Secret Pearl." Of the books I've read by you, these three seem to me deserving of particular praise & thanks. With each, once I tore open the package from that day's mail, and opened the book, I could not put them down. Each also brought me to tears, so I was not only admiring the character development, pacing and clear, unaffected and nearly transparent writing style, I was also emotionally wrenched by them. (I believe the last chapters of "The Secret Pearl" made me use the most Kleenex.) So this is a thank you for being a living reproof to any remnants of literary snobbery I've had during the past 30 years regarding romance novels. I used to think, in the 1970s, that they were entertainment fit only for my genteel grandma & great aunts. Was I ever wrong! It has taken me 30 years to get over that misconceived prejudice. I am glad your books were waiting for me, as a sort of treat. I look forward to your future work as well.

Slightly Dangerous was the best out of the whole series. I could not wait to read it since I first read the excerpt in the back of Slightly Sinful. I usually by my books in paperback but the book was special. It was great how you built his character up through the series. I hope we will see the Bedwyns again in the future. Maybe a family reunion or maybe when his son is grown and ready for the dukedom.

I loved the Bedwyn Series!!! A friend at work was reading Morgan's story on her lunch break and she spoke very highly of the other books and made a suggestion that I read the series. I read them all except Wulfric's story (which I'm reading right now) within a week. I plan to buy the series for my own collection so that I may enjoy them over and over. Ms. Balogh I want to say you do know how to tell a great story!!!

Hi! Having read all the Bedwyns' stories, I was very excited today to be able to finally lay my hands on Wulfric's story . I spent 4 hours fiercely devouring the book and would say that it is the best yet. It made me think that I was in love with wulfric..haha...The book was really heartwrenching at parts, funny and so much more. I have enjoyed it immensely despite the fact that I will be having exams soon and should be studying today =(. Your writing is really irresistable. One thing is that it could have been a longer book and also to allow us to see more of the "Wulfric" side of Bewcastle. Thanks for granting me the pleasure of ur addictive writing

Dear Mary, Your book ,"Slightly Dangerous", was Outstanding, i found myself hooked from the veryfist page, i couldn't put it down i was finished with in five days, i read until my eyes could not stay open any longer, you got my heart thumping at the parts where i thought they would be and was excited for the characters at the end. This was my first time reading one of your books, now i'm trying to get the library to order more of yours, they said that it would take too long so i'm going to order them myself. I'm anxious to what the rest or your heart steaming pages bring to me next. Thanks.

I think I've read every book you've ever written and never had one I did not like. In "One Night of Love" Neville has a sister that is younger and was married before. She was married before and "supposedly" missed her husband so much she did not want to marry again. I would love to read her story. I can't remember her name right now but I keep looking for her in other books written since then. Please write her story. THanks, Janet Smith

Ms. Balogh: Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your "Slightly" series. My favorites were "Slightly Married" and "Slightly Dangerous". Thanks so much for giving us such a delightful series! I was wondering if "promo" bookmarks have been offered for these books. If so, I would love to know where to e-mail, write or call to obtain a few. Your books are wonderful reads - I look forward to your next release - soon, I hope!! Frances Earl

Dear Mary, I took a chance on finding your website and am delighted to have found it the first time. My eldest daughter, who lives in Fairbanks, and I have been sharing your books for at least a year. I sent her the latest for her recent birthday, and she's going to give it back to me for mine! She's even started sending for used copies of the older ones. My one complaint is that I lose a lot of sleep by staying up too late reading your books. We're about to begin sharing with the youngest of the 5 daughters, who lives in Seattle. She says her baby is now sleeping through the night and she can once again do some recreational reading. All of us are great fans of Jane Austen, and read other Regency romances, but so far we find yours to be the best of contemporary publications. Thank you! Lory Hahn

Hello I came to your books from a slight angle. I have become a fan of Jenny Sterlin's work for Recorded Books through the Mary Russell stories & decided to listen to other things she had done. "More Than A Mistress" was a delight so I went looking for more & found the Bedwyns. Huzzah! That family is one of the most delicious collection of characters I've ever had the good fortune to encounter. (I couldn't wait for Wulfric to melt & a long time he was about it too!) To come full circle, it would be a delight to hear what Jenny Sterlin could do with them. Can't you just hear her raging Freyja or nailing someone to the wall with a vocal icicle as Wulfric? Any chance of it? I thank you for many hours of enjoyment as a silent observer of the Bedwyns. Maybe the Bedwyn women could start a matchmaking firm. They were certainly of help to their brother. Thank you again. Sincerely Janet
