Mrs. Balogh, First I want to say what everyone says,
"Really love your books". They are more then just entertainment for
me. They are an escape from life's little and big problems. If I
need a lift or to forget for a while my worries, and we all have them,
I pick up one of your books. I especially like the Bedwyns. You make
them so real, you have to remind yourself that they are not. Hope
in your future books we hear something about them, as I am sure we will. Hope I did not make too many errors in my writing. It's a little scary writing to a former teacher! I was very good in English and writing, but have been out of school for almost 50 years. Unbelievable to me. I feel no different until I look in the mirror. Also hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a hppy and helathy New Year. All the Very Best, Becky

Ive been a fan for several years now although i was unaware that you
had books other than the Bedwyn series and the Mistress series until
this past year. I want to thank you for your magical writings that keep
me spellbound-even though i have just reading through the Bedwyn series
for the third time. Somehow you create stories that never lose their
luster. To put your books in the romance novel category is 'slightly'
degrading because usually when i read a romance novel i find them cheap
and boring, very one dimensional. BUT your stories, on the other
hand, combine suspense, history, romance, and comedy in a way that
spells class and talent. I hope that you will continue to write for a
long time. I will surely keep reading. Thank you again. |

Just finished re-reading the Bedwyn series. Wonderful
family! However, there are a couple of characters that are
screaming at me "tell her we want our stories told, too!"
So........Attingsborough wants his story told AND so does Gwen,
Lady Muir!!! There. I've delivered the message! LOL! Yours are books that I do not get rid of! It is always a great pleasure to re-read them. So, dear lady, keep that keyboard hot! Best wishes always, Anne |

As I have been a fan since the early 90's, I am aware of how prolific a writer you are, I would love to see more of your backlist reprinted as well as more of your new work out more often. (I realize this makes me part of your demanding public, but so be it.) Please keep up the good work!! I am very much hoping to meet you someday at a book signing. You are my favorite author!! As a Regency addict, I'm sure I've read some of those older (Signet?)
novels, but I picked up three of the "Slightly" series at a booksale
and was hooked like a fish-even though I read them a little out of
order. Thankfully, I read "A Summer to Remember" first, then the Bedwyn
books. I struggle with myself if I enjoyed Scandalous or Dangerous
more, so then I have to read them again, of course, to discover the
truth of the matter. I just finished Simply Unforgetable, which I enjoyed greatly. I can't wait for the remainder of the series and I know in my heart of hearts you will not disappoint me when the time comes for Claudia to realize that Freyja has been financing her school all these years. Haha! I have Silent Melody in my library bag, waiting to be read. Now I wonder if I should hunt down the Secret Pearl first from all the praise I have read on the message board. I admit that hunting down a hard-to-find book is half the fun of it. I refuse to resort to eBay unless I absolutely have to. Otherwise, I would miss out on all the lovely booksales where I just might find something else I don't have... |

My shelves have been so crowded with books I decided to re-read
some of my romance series and discard the less memorable ones. The
Cynster series...OUT. The Bradley spy series...OUT....the Quinn
Bridgertons...OUT (except for "When He Was Wicked", which is a keeper. I started reading about the Bedwyns again and could not bring myself to discard any of them. The more I read the more I appreciated your wonderful ability to breathe life into these characters. Your writing is superb. I'm so happy the Bedwyns will play a part in the Wallflower series. I feel they are a part of MY family. They are on my shelf forever. |

how do I begin to thank you for your books. In the movie, "In Her
Shoes" the main character states something along the lines of, "the
extent of my love life is romance novels." This has been true for me
ever since I began readingyour books. Don't get the wrong idea
though... it helped me get over someone who was insensitive and
unchivalrous... now I am much more content curling up and reading one
of your novels. Whether I am reading a book for the first time or
rereading one of your books for the fifth time, I am content to dream
and completely surrender myself to your skill and magic. Many people
believe romance novels are melodramatic and dirty, but I believe that
they are a product of an age where chivalry is unfortunatly too rare
and unfulfilling. It really is a pity that men no longer know how to
court women or treat them with respect. Today, lust and drunkenness are
the substitutes for romance and chivalry. Keep on writing, because
without your books there would be no hope for so many people who need
to feel that love and romance still exists. Thank you so very much... |

the Bedwyn books as well and loved the "Mistress" books. I am so
excited to have discovered your backlist listed on this site and want
find each and every one of them. I've reread several of them when I
just had to revisit the characters. I think I might be a bit obsessed because every time I get a new book, I can't stop until it is finished and most of the time it is within the same day. I think the reason I love your books so much is that you do such a tremendous job of character development and I really care about the characters. Jane Austen is another of my favorite authors and when I read your books I am transported into that same sort of world. Please keep them coming! -A HUGE fan, Erin |

After reading Slightly Dangerous, I relized that Christine's sister,
Miss Thompson is still at home not married. What about Christine -
Christine is having another baby, and her sister comes to stay and
help. Because Wulfric will not leave Christine at this time alone, his
stewarts have to come to him with the yearly reports on his many
properties. One of the stewarts is a distance cousine, from his
mother's side of the family, a widower with childern, they meet and as
allways with you love follows. What do you think? I do love how
you include other family members in your many stories. Just a note from

It isn't often that a novel moves me to tears the way "The Secret
Pearl did." The emotional scope of the book imparted a humanity to
the characters that tied me to their plight and their struggle for
happiness. There is none of the usual here and I applaud you for it.
There are good choices and bad choices, strong people and weak ones.
But making a bad choice or being weak doesn't make an individual evil
in the world of "Pearl." Neither does morality equate to goodness
here. It's a complicated and harsh world for a romance, but I found
myself thinking early on that this was a story that rises above labels.
Ridgeway is now one of my favorite heros, and small though my keeper
shelf of romance novels is, "The Secret Pearl" now has a permanent
place on it. That was my long-winded way of saying thank you. You seem to have the trick of making your readers' care. "The Secret Pearl" was my first Mary Balogh book. It certainly won't be my last. |

Hi Mom, Although I love spending time with you when you are not writing

nothing new to read of yours. What a bummer. You are my favorite author
(even though many would say I am biased) but I have read everything you
have out there. So seeing as I read faster than you write, there is
nothing else to do but to re-introduce myself to some old friends in
some of your earlier works. Perhaps I will delve into the lives of
Alexandra Purnell and her Earl of Amberley, the very distiguished
Edmund Raine in "The Gilded Web". And then when I am full up on them
perhaps I will then also read "Web of Love' and "Devil's Web" just to
say that I have once again completed one of my favorite trilogies. Yes,
I have fully convinced myself that I can and will survive until your
next story hits the shelf but please make it soon! All my love,

love your novels. I've read attentively since I discovered A Summer to
Remember. I love the Bedwyn series and thoroughly enjoyed Simply
Unforgettable. I can't wait for the next three in the installment. I have to beg. Please write the story of Miss Portia Hunt and the Marquess of Attinsborough. I love the Marquess. However, I do not nearly feel the same for Portia. She drastically needs someone to loosen her up. I do sympathize with her. She seems strong, and I'm sure some part of her is hurt over being left by Viscount Sinclair. I see much of Lauren Edgeworth in her and would hope Attinsborough would change her in the same way. As of now though, she is horribly unlikable and easily despised. Please make her character lovable by furthering her story. |

I'm sure you get many comments, letters etc. with someone claiming to
be your biggest fan. I'm very sure we are legion as you are such a
wonderful writer. I found myself out of work for 11 months this last
year and you are one of the authors that helped me through that
stressful period - and I thank you. I notice that you mention that
Simply Unforgettable will be out in an audio version this fall. But
could not find any mention of any other books in an audio version. I am
very interested in the Bedwyn series especially. I find myself, with a
new job, and a new commute - by car. Not something that I ever wanted
to do, but here I am, and some days it can be 2 hrs. each way - so I
find audio books to be a wonderful way for me to manage the commute.
I've had the Diana Gabaldon series, and am in the middle of the 6th
Harry Potter book - 17 discs, if you can imagine it. But I will finish
it in about 2 weeks time, so I'm desperate for good material, and if
your books are available I can get my library to get copies of them.
You say that Christmas and Love go together for you, well Mary Balogh

I really love your writing. So many romance writers have gone the
way of the suspense novel and so many just ignore any kind of character
development to get to the "steamy" part. Thanks so much for
keeping the genre in high standard. If you could reply to this. There is a character that I wondered if you were going to give her own book, or if you have and I have missed. Gwen, Neville Wyatt's sister, the widowed Lady Muir. I have always wondered about her husband and about her silence on the matter. Have you done a short story that I have missed on this character. As a former student of yours and renewed lover of romance novels I just wanted to let you know that I have rediscovered my interest in reading many thanks to you. Even as I read in silence it was like I could hear you reading it aloud in class. I hope I haven't made too many grammatical errors in this note but I just want you to know that you have a new old fan. Thank you and many regards to you and yours, Sheila |

First let me express my deep admiration for your writing. I am a
fan of all of your books and I daresay you are one of my top five
fiction authors of all time. Though my years are few on this
Earth, I have read many books and few have provided the hours of
entertainment that your books have gifted me with. I am an
aspiring author myself. I could not fathom a day without
writing. I have nurtured my love for writing under many a
challenging circumstance, including a harsh home life, full of
unappreciative family members, and doubters who surounded me in the
world. But I feel I have matured in my writing, as naturally most
do, and I look forward to doing so for many years to come. I only
hope to encounter enough luck during my lifetime to study under a
mentor as talented as you are. If I wasn't so sure about your
busy schedule, and I didn't possess such a strong feeling that such an
action would be impertinent, I would surely send you a sample of my
work. However, I shall boldly chime in, if you disagree, I shall
be happy to oblige any request that you might make. In short, I
need every bit of help that I can acquire. I congratulate you on your substantial success in writing. I can't wait until you release more of your wonderful books. And though it is redundant for me to say so, as you must have only seldom considered the notion, never stop writing. I'm sure that like most writers who do so for the sheer uplifting joy that writing grants, you will continue producing your outstanding novels. Many thanks for reading (and writing), R.H. Sulliven |

I love all your books. With the exception of two and some of
the shorts I have read and re-read all your stories, some so often
I had to buy new copies. I'm always keeping an eye open for the
missing books in my collection and can hardly wait to get my hands on a
new story. While I loved the Bedwyn series and look forward to
all the 'Simply' books my all time favorite characters are the Four
Horsemen in Indiscreet, Unforgiven and Irresistible.
I just wish Eden Wendell had his story told in a separate book as well.
For me he remains the most intriguing of the Four Horsemen. Falling for
independent minded Lavinia Bergland would have been so much fun to read
about in a full-lenght book. Thanks for many enjoyable hours
spent reading your magical books and many more to come! |

I'm sitting at my desk with a dead mole at my feet, and the mole's bloodthirsty killer, Christopher the Assassin (my cat), demanding loudly that I admire his latest victim. I just had a bowl of popcorn for dinner, followed by a CranRaspberry chaser, and I'm sitting here all twitterpated and unfulfilled, wondering what to do about it. And then it struck me: read a Balogh! The true test of an author's skill is the enduring allure of her writing, the ability to keep drawing her readers back to her books time and again. You are in the top five of my favorite authors, and that's saying a lot because I am a jaded, picky reader, and my time is too precious to waste on mediocre or even vaguely good books. Your writing rises far above the mundane. You never let me down. When I want to sink my teeth into a meaty novel that leaves me feeling satisfied in the end, and not cheated along the way, I go to my Balogh shelf and close my eyes and pick a book, any book. It doesn't matter what book it is because I know it will be good. I don't care if I've read it before, because it's just as good the fifth time as it was the first. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, and get myself back on your newsletter list. Now I have to go perform funeral duty--find a shovel, pick up the dead varmint at my feet, and fling it into the woods. Then I shall have a serious discussion with The Assassin about his sloppy habits. A Balogh hero, I shall tell him, would never leave an untidy dead body at the heroine's feet. Ms. Balogh, Thank you again for your wonderful work. Wulfric Bedwyn is
one of the favorite heros of all time. I adore him! At any rate, I also
adore your "Simply" series, I enjoyed the first one. But, I so want to
tell you that I think you should pair Claudia Martin w/ the one Duke,
who's a relative of Lauren's. I couldn't think of his name right now
though. But you know the one I meant.... He appeared in "Simply
Unforgettable". I think it'd be sweet coz Claudia just loathed 'Dukes'
coz of her bad experience w/ the Bedwyns. And wouldn't it be perfect
since this Duke is a friend of the Bedwyn's? :D Anyway, since you said
you're still looking for the perfect hero for Claudia Martin, I thought
I'd give you my two-cents. Cheers, ISA |

There was a character in "One Night for Love" and "A Summer to Remember" that I thought would soon be a hero but he kind of fell off the radar in the Slightly Series...he was the Marquess of A...(sorry but don't remember the title) . Then, I think I heard him mentioned in Simply Unforgettable - I listened the audiobook - as Portia's escort when Lucien gave her the boot. Now that he appeared again, should we wait for his story soon? Is he Ms. Martins' hero? Can't wait! Demi

It's 5:10am in TX and I have just about finished Alleyne's story in the
Bedwyn series. I should have been in bed at least 2 hrs
ago, but 2 hrs ago, I had Slightly Sinful in my hands while sitting
under the hair dryer (I keep late hours). I have to say that it
was page 333 that did it. When Wulfric strode out and embraced
Alleyne (and I quote...then he came striding along the
terrace....wordless embrace...Alleyne dipped his forehead to his
brother's shoulder and felt at last that he was safe.)I cried like a
big ole' 32 year old baby. It was beautiful. Thank you,
Mary Balogh for a really great scene in a historical romance
novel. I also have to say that I loved what you did in Morgan and
now Alleyne's story. Somebody actually wove a love scene into a
book and didn't write a book around love scenes.
Even though I am an old fashioned girl and believe in the innocence of
sex after marriage, I love the idea that you took the gauche out of it
and put more philosophy into it. And I liked that
they could live without each other because that's real life even
though, of course, they would prefer not to. So, thanks again for
a good read. I am so looking forward to Wulf's story. |

Like so many of your readers, I am intriqued with Wolfric. I especially enjoy your heriones since their intelligence shines and moral purpose is an inspiration. I am soon to be 81 years-old. My daughter says I am a 'with it" senior. I have directed your books to her as well. She encourages me to write a Regency romance one day. I'd be happy doing the research. For now, we simply love to read your stories. My wish would be to see your work in film. There are not enough engaging stories told in film these days. Best wishes for your continued success. Thanks for the up-coming Christmas story to brighten our days. Regards, Katherine Cramer |

| Wrote... I truly LOVE the Bedwyns. I could honestly see it as a mini-series, each Bedwyn having their own segment. Ofcourse, the characters could never be as handsome in the movie as in my mind or in your words, but with all people are turning into movies these days, this series would stand on its own. I only hate that its over! I was truly sad when I finished the last Epilogue in Slightly Dangerous. It took me about a week to go from A Summer to Remember to Wulf's story. I had bought it on a whim, being a regency lover, and when realized that it was part of a series, had to run out and borrow all the others from the library, literally, I was afraid that I'd go back and they'd all be gone, so I selfishly checked all out at once, good thing too, because I couldn't get enough and went from one book to the next w/out hesitation. Thank you so much! I haven't loved a novel family this much since I read Marion Chesney's 6 sisters series. | |

The ability to allow the reader to "feel" what her characters are feeling is incredible....fancy lying in bed 'bawling' in a romance story.. never the less thats what I do. My favourite of all time is still the georgious "Duke of Tresham".I have just thoroughly enjoyed "Simply Unforgetable"When is your next book coming out? I am 'hanging out for it!

I have done nothing but read parenting and childrearing books for the last several years and suddenly have found time for some fiction. I started out with 'A Summer to Remember' and really wanted to write and tell you that it has been a long time since characters touched me so deeply. I am now reading the Bedwyn series and enjoying them. I don't know what exactly it is about your heroines but for some reason I relate to them quite easily. I was wondering about one of your characters, Gwen Muir. Do you have any plans to put her into a future book or have you done so already? She strikes me as a heroine worthy of her own story. When I looked you up on-line and found out you live right next door (ha, ha) I was glad. I live near Edmonton. Its nice to see such fine work coming from our country. Well, thanks for sharing your writing gift and I look forward to reading as many of your stories as I can get my hands on. regards, Laura Balanko

It has been a while (and I came online to order one) since I had a "Mary" as my reading friend calls it when I pass your books on. The sense of acceptance of all and spiritual knowledge without prejudice and limits, in other words, the real sense of LOVE for all is so present in your books and it is very healing after all the non acceptance and violence towards those who disagree with us that goes on in the world. I am a counselor and I hear enough realism. I want to know that the end will be healing. Thanks!!! P.S. That is not to say that your books are simple. Sometimes I think that there is no way for the characters to get out of their dilemmas, but they do in very creative and human ways.

| Wrote... Hello Mary, Saturday evening I started Slightly Dangerous and Sunday morning (at about 4:30) I finished it. I LOVE it when a book positively refuses to be put down- and those are few and far between these days. Of the many, many (embarassing number) books I've read in this genre I can honestly say this is the first time the story line took this particular tact. I LOVED it, and I dreamed about Wulfric and Christine for the few remainder hours of the night during which I actually slept. I'm so glad to have found your name and your titles. I'll soon be reading the rest of the "Slightly" series... I'm a pretty particular reader and have chosen to stop finishing books when I'm a few chapters in and realize -hey, I really don't care what happens to these people. But with your novels, there is never such a thought. In fact, it is exactly the contrary. Your storytelling skill is superior and your characters are, impossibly, unique. Thanks so much! | |

I also bought my paperbook copy of Slightly Dangerous which I once again read at least 3 times, as well as all the other "Slightly's" also. Thanks to your newsletter as to when Simply Unforgettable was going to be out, I tracked my local library so that when they said it was on order, I put it on hold right away. I was the 14th & when they had gotten it, the list was over 100, but I got in on the first as they ordered 35 books. Thank you for that. For "Slightly Dangerous" when I got on I was 182nd or something like that. It took 6 months before I got it. I hope you send out another newsletter when "Simply Love" will be out. Thanks again. I keep hoping for a book on Gwen. I assumed she'd be up soon, but she's not shown--but then she gets mentioned from time to time. I just know she had a bad marriage--horrible, actually, and I believe her husband caused her limp, no matter what everyone who knows her thinks! Whatever you decide, thank you for your books, and for continuing to write. And I want to say thank you for one of my old favorites--the story was entitled Precious Rogue, but I think of it as "Little Bird". Sweet, and lovely, and simple, and perfect. Thank you.

| Wrote... Dear Mary, While waiting for your newest book to come out, I began re-reading some of your other books. I have every book you have written except for The Wood Nymph. That book has proved impossible to find, except on eBay, with prices going as high as $50.00! If some of your older books are being reprinted, that is one that everyone is looking for, since the bidding is always high, with multiple bidders. I don't know, though, if you have any input into what books are re-printed. Anyway, I re-read about twenty of your books in the last three weeks. While all were enjoyable and a pleasure to read, I was struck by the power and artistry in Silent Melody. That book is so much more than a Regency, or a romance. The personality and world of the deaf Emily are so beautifully expressed, one would think that you were deaf yourself in order to understand her way of coping with and triumphing over her disability. That book, and several others, such as Longing, show what you are really capable of as an author. I know that any author's works are going to be uneven in quality and inspiration, especially if you have deadlines and demands from publishers to contend with. And don't get me wrong, none of your books has been disappointing. But if you could be inspired to write another book with the sheer beauty of language and emotional honesty that is what makes Silent Melody so moving, you will really have accomplished something wonderful [again]. I look forward to whatever you write in the future. Thanks for all you have given your readers so far. Kate Duffus | |

Well, as I was trying to say, I love the fact that your characters have feelings and that you allow them to explore their feelings and that those feelings are quite human and convoluted and highly interesting! Whew! Talk about run-on sentences! LOL! I treasure all your stories I've read so far and read them over several times during the course of a year. At the moment am going back through the Bedwyns in anticipation of Wulf's story which I hope to find next time I'm in B&N. Best of luck in all your endeavors. Always a devoted reader, Anne

First, I cannot afford to pay hardcover prices for what is essentially a paperback romance. Second, I have all the "Slightly" books in paperback in a row on my shelf (starting with One Night for Love) and I don't want a hard cover book standing at the end. Third, I do not have room for hard cover books... I like to save and re-read the books I enjoy, and they just take up too much room. For the above reasons I will not be buying her new books as they come out in hard cover. Having said all that, I have to add that Ms Balogh is one of my favorite writers and I always look forward to reading new books by her. And I am excited that some of her old ones will be reissued. le

| Wrote... I was re-reading A SUMMER TO REMEMBER and realise that the heroine's cousin, Gwendolyn, Lady Muir must have an interesting story to tell. Let's see, she was crippled, and miscarried in an accident, and shortly thereafter, her husband accidently fell over a balastrade and died. Reading between the lines, he was a brute who beat her , and she killed him in self-defense. She hasn't confided even in her nearest and dearest, because they all think she had a happy marriage, and she's too ashamed to tell the truth. You should write a novel in which she and Sydnam Butler get together: two wounded souls, not just physically, but emotionally scarred. And there's no reason he can't learn to paint with his left hand. :-D I've enjoyed most of your novels , with the exception of SLIGHTLY WICKED: a 'hero' who is so dense that he doesn't realize he's bedding a virgin, and a spineless 'heroine' who allows herself to be verbally and emotionally abused by everybody. It's not often that I feel such complete distaste for a novel. If I was your editor, I would have demanded a drastic rewrite. In fact, it's not too late even now. It would be like the Director's Cut of a movie. | |
