I fell in love with your characters when I got the first two books of your "Web" series while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. I already had labeled several of your other books, "The First Snowdrop" as keepers, but the Web series reeled me in for good. Missed your Christmas short story this year, but was delighted with your epilogue of "The Christmas Bride" Thank you for that treat. I suspect that it is because your characters are women and men, not teenagers, as so many romace heroines seem to be, that I can relate and believe in your stories. I look forward to your next story.

You were very kind in encouraging me some years ago when I had my first novel published, 'Dancing On An Edge". At that time you offered to write something on my behalf if I had a second book published.Well it looks like Regency Press may be going to publish my second novel. It is a regency entitled The Pseudo Chaperone. I wondered whether I could call upon you for an endorsement. If I am out of line please ignore this Email. Thanks for many hours of pleasure in reading your books. Bill de Nance

Dear Mary: Thanks for your response to my E-mail! I am looking forward to the next book in 2000. It sounds wonderful. I just finished the Temporary Wife and think it is the best you have done. In the process of reading One Night for Love. Just to let you know, I printed out your book list and hope to find each and every one. The series of the "Web" books are excellent. Devil's Web is the only one not found yet. I hope to find it. Please reprint some of your older books. Between my mother and I, we have about 1/3 of your books. Thanks

Dear Ms. Balogh, You are a truly remarkable writer and one of my favorites (I also love Austen, de Saint Exupery, Paul Watkins, etc. but I digress). I am not one for most romantic fiction but I picked up “Beyond the Sunrise” a few years back, and was amazed and mesmerized. Joanna and Robert's story is so poignant and beautiful. It makes me cry every time I read it (and I have read it at least half a dozen times already). It is a classic novel. However, I wanted to ask a serious question. I know that the book is out-of-print (which I wish would be remedied because EVERYONE who loves your work should read it) and that you still hold the copyright, but is it possible to get the rights to adapt the book for the screen? I am a screenwriter and think the story would make a wonderful sweeping romance. I know of an agent who's interested in my work and I would love to adapt your book. Please let me know and keep up the wonderful work. You are a true diamond of the first water!

Dear Mrs. Balogh, Somehow, in the last six months, I have become addicted to your books. Since most of them are out of print, I have resorted to using our interstate library system in order to track down your books. I want to thank you for reading pleasure you have given me! I am amazed at how very prolific you are and how diverse your story lines are. So far, though I really do love all of your books, my two favorites are "The Secret Pearl" and "Secrets of the Heart."

Dear Mrs. Balogh, I'd just like to pass along my compliments. You are my favorite modern Regency author. Your characters are just that, not charicatures. I also got my first exposure to regencies by reading Georgette Heyer. My all-time favorite is Cotillion. My name is Welsh, my parents are also from the UK and I am also a practising Catholic . Something in your work made me suspect you were too and now I know. Anyway, I am rambling, but I just want to thank you for your hard work. I have spent many a wonderful hour curled up with your books. Best Regards, Megan

I saw that you had a website in your last book. I have read every single one of your books and, more importantly, kept them! Usually, I recycle my books in the interest of space by passing them on to my mother and sister, both regency addicts like myself. They both know, however, that I don't pass on my Mary Balogh's! As someone who cut her teeth on Georgette Heyer's while in her early teens many, many years ago, I appreciate the beauty of your plots and characterizations. My only regrets are that I read your books too quickly and have to wait until the next arrives and that I don't write as well as you do! Keep up the very good work!

I HAVE NEARLY ALL MARY BALOGH BOOKS IN MY POSSESSION. LOVE READING THEM. VERY MUCH ENJOY YOUR ABILITY TO DESCRIBE THE FEELINGS OF BOTH THE MALE AND FEMALE CHARACTERS IN YOUR STORIES AND YOU ALSO GENERALLY MANAGE TO INCLUDE OTHER SIDELINE ROMANCES SO MAKING THE STORYLINE MORE INTERESTING. I STARTED OFF BY GETTING 'A CERTAIN MAGIC' FROM THE LIBRARY AND FROM THEN ON HAVE BOUGHT EVERY TITLE I CAN WHETHER NEW OR SECOND HAND. 'A CERTAIN MAGIC' IS DEFINITELY MY FAVOURITE OUT OF SO MANY OF YOUR BOOKS. FOUND YOUR WEBSITE ON THE INSIDE COVER OF 'LAST CHANCE FOR LOVE' TITLE WHICH I HAVE BOUGHT AND READ. HAVE YOU WRITTEN A BOOK CALLED 'THE RELUCTANT BRIDE'? I LOOK FORWARD TO COMING TO THIS WEBSITE AND SEEING WHAT NEW BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE.

I hope you'll consider re-releasing them at some point. But I think my favorite so far is Tangled. Thank you for sharing your stories.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer this past year and instead of seeing things negatively, I see them with more clarity... and want to say thanks where thanks is due. Also I was wondering if you happened to have a list of all the people in the class. I am trying to locate a friend that I met but I lost her address. Her name is Deborah & she is from London. If you could help me on this I would appreciate it. Thanks, Cynthia Cormany

Dear Ms. Balogh, Please re-issue your old books, I have all but 3 or 4 and have given up trying to get them used. I loved 'Truly', that scene where he asked if she wanted to get off of the horse made my head swim. However, the "duplicate" duel scene in 'Indiscreet' and 'Unforgiven' strikes me as your best writing ever. When I came upon the same scene for the second time I held the two books side by side and whooped with joy at such good writing. However, I shall never forgive you for marrying off Nathaniel and Eden in one fell swoop--I had so looked forward to reading a 4th book!

Dear Ms. Balogh, I am a tremendous fan of your work, and now have all of your books with the exception of "The Wood Nymph." I have been trying to find this book for a few years now, and it's become impossible to find. The book is selling for about $40 on Amazon Auctions. I am not a collector of your work to make money - I just want to read the book. Have you ever considered, since your books are so popular in the used book trade, of reissuing your titles? For those of us who are simply interested in reading, that would be a marvelous thing. As it is, I doubt that I will ever be able to get my hands on "The Wood Nymph." Again, let me say that I have enjoyed your books immensely, and look forward to your next project. Nina Scheller

Mary, I love your books. My favorite one is The Gilded Web. I have searched used book stores, the internet, etc.,all to no avail. The only place I can find it is on Amazon.com auctions, but since this book is so splendid, it seems to go for about an average of $30 per auction. I have bid on this book and have been outbid many times because I can only afford $25. Alas, I am a poor college student. I am writing you this letter to ask if you could talk to the publishers about re-issueing The Gilded Web. I am sure that many other of your readers feel the same way. Sincerely a devoted fan, Elizabeth

Thanks for a very interesting website. You have been my favorite author next to Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen for 10 or 11 years. I just joined the list at One List and have enjoyed your comments there. It seems incredible to hear from you after admiring your books for so long. I have many favorites, and have collected all of your books except one (Truly), but at the top of my list would be Beyond the Sunrise, Snow Angel and The Lady with the Black Umbrella. I do not like evil villains as they are usually very unrealistic, so I appreciated your comments about that, but wish you would have less villains! What is most interesting and enjoyable for me is the development of the personal relationship, overcoming obstacles, etc. rather than outside interference. I like your unusual heroes and heroines (A Precious Jewell, Lord Carew's Bride) and your books always are very touching. You usually add just enough sex too! (at least for my taste) One of my favorite things is to get two love stories for one in a book, and I wish you would do more of that, as well as older heroes and heroines. I like how your characters are often "ordinary" people, not all fabulously beautiful people, but I'm afraid I am partial to Heyer's dark, brooding, arrogant heroes who very reluctantly fall in love (my favorites are Faro's Daughter and Venetia) and the very smart, witty heroines (who do not act like feminists in the Regency period! but manage to be independent and get what they want, for example, the Grand Sophy). Well, you do a great job. I just got your newest book and have not read it yet. I think I am saving it for some special day, like a treat to be savored! I do think your earliest books were not your best. I just got a few of the older books recently through internet used bookstores. But I enjoyed them and am glad to have them. Thanks for listening! Best Wishes, Edwina Warner P.S. We must be about the same age. I just came home from St. Louis where I went to a ball game, and drove right by Swansea, IL, a suburb of Belleville, Il, just east of St. Louis. I visited Wales in 1972 and enjoyed it very much.

Dear Mrs. Balogh, Was reading a review of a Regency Christmas anthology containing one of your lovely stories (the anthology featuring gold, frankincense, and myrth...yours was the gold.) The reviewer was commenting on the difficulty of rating anthologies as one or two stories could be quite fine, but the others not up to the same level, hence the problems of assessing the entire collection. It made me think that your publishers might be interested (I am positive your readers would be!) in publishing an anthology with only your short stories. Your Christmas stories could constitute one anthology and your other short stories could be published under various theme titles. I have found myself wanting to discard an anthology, but deciding against it as it contains a story of yours that I enjoy reading and re-reading. Perhaps other readers encounter this same dilemma. It certainly would help this reader who has a house at least half full of books....the results of an English teacher/librarian and a history professor meeting, marrying, and mating their mutual book vice for 32 years! Please keep well and happy. Sincerely, Rosalee Cohen

Hi Mary, Just love your books - truly written in the Georgette Heyer tradition. It is a joy to see excellent writing in the romance genre - just like she did it, so do you. I am wondering why your new Dell book is available only at Amazon, which has high shipping costs, and not at my neighborhood B.Dalton, where I have had it on order for months with no results. Best of luck on your future books - it is so delightful to pick up one of your new books, or a backlist title that I have just found. Please find someone to republish your now unavailable backlist titles - there are many of us who would like to read them. Thanks again, Anita von Oppenfeld

Dear Mrs. Balogh, I have just finished reading with my usual pleasure your latest book "One night for Love." The best part of this read however, was on the dedication page to Ms. Knutson which carried your new web site address. I have enjoyed all of your books, but my favorite is "The Temporary Wife." I re-read it constantly. Upon each finish, I have the same emotion. I want to know more about Charity & Anthony Earheart, The Duke & Duchess of Withingsby. Your character development in this novel was particularly well crafted. I have always wanted to know what happened to them after they returned from charity's home to Enfield Park. How does Charity handle being a duchess? How does she continue to handle her husband the duke? Surely this leopard hasn't changed all of his top lofty spots. What happens to Augusta as she grows into womanhood? Does Maryann ever unbend to Charity? How do the Duncans take to their sister being a duchess? How does anthony fit into this loving boisterous family? Is it possible that you have considered writing a sequel? Perhaps some of my comments have intrigued you into now thinking about. If any book ever cried out for a sequel, "The Temporary Wife" does. In any case please accept my thanks for providing me with many pleasureable hours. Sincerely yours John F. Hi! I've been reading your books since 1988 when I read "Secrets of the Heart" and loved it. I've been reading your books ever since--and still love them. I find the loving and caring you weave into your characters and stories very healing. I look forward to every one of your books. I hope you're not thinking of retiring like Lavyrle Spencer did! One thing, I read in "Romantic Times" that you won't be writing the smaller books for Signet anymore. I wish you would continue writing them. I loved your shorter stories. Actually, I looked forward to them more than I looked forward to your longer books. The reason is not because of their length, but because the stories are different. But whatever you write, I look forward to it! Sincerely, Louise

Dear Mrs. Balogh, Your novels have brought me such enjoyment that I must thank you for writing them. I have particularly liked minor characters in one novel becoming protagonists in another. Have you ever thought of writing a novel about Rosalie Ogden and Sir Albert Boyle who appear in Dark Angel. I was intrigued by a handsome and wealthy gentleman falling in love , almost against his will, with a (at first sight) plain and dull young woman. Their story, during the courtship and after their marriage, strikes me as one that could be developed into a moving love story. I suppose none of us ever quite recover from the Cinderella story, even in this day of "equality"! Keep well and happy. Sincerely, Rosalee Cohen

As I didn't have the book on my desk, I did get the title mixed up. I find I read your books over and over. I read “Indiscreet” three times in a row, without a break. I enjoyed it that much. I read the first in the “Web” series, but then turned it in to the used book store. By the time I realized there were three in the series, I was unable to find a copy of the “Gilded Web” for a rereading. I still have “Devil’s Web” on my shelf, but have been looking for the first two for some time. Thank you for the information. I just finished reading One Night for Love and had to check out your website. As someone who travels every week, I go through at least one book a week, most of them historical romances. I'll tell you that I was getting to the point where all the stories were starting to blur together when I found your book. I actually found myself hoping my flight would be delayed so I could finish it! This is the first book of yours that I have read and judging from the extensive list you have, you'll be keeping me entertained for quite a while!

I love all your books!!! YOu are a truly great author. Few authors manage to create a truly natural flow throughout the novels like you do. I don't see the calculated handbooks on how to write in the backgrounds. YOu have a style that is so unique and captivating. I first started by reading you Signet books and I am hooked on you. I hope that in the future I will be as a popular a Regency writer as you are.

I believe I have every book you have written and I read them over and over again. I think you are the best Regency writer ever and you have ruined other writers for me. I actually prefer the Signet Regencies over the Historicals because the story is focused on the relationship of the heroine and hero. The Historicals all have some other conflict that, for me, seems frequently contrived and boring. The tension and conflict between the principals is quite enought drama for me. I also find the regular Regency length just right for finishing in a day. I don't think I have ever read any of your books without crying ( a lot!). I love the humorous ones as well and do a lot of laughing out loud when I read them. I don't think I am going to like waiting until June, 2000!!! for another read!! Thanks for all the good times! Hi! I can't tell you how pleased I am to have found that you have a web site! I was searching for you online, hoping to find that some enterprising reader had posted a backlist, but instead I found you, which is much better! Similarly to so many of us here, I never expected to read or enjoy romances, but I picked one up for the sake of being educated about what's out there (after hearing a writer who is an alum of my college speak about her own Regencies) and really enjoyed it. I asked my Regency-reading friends about which authors I should try next - the answer was Mary Balogh, without question! I have been a fan ever since! I enjoy the depth to your characters and the fact that each is an individual instead of being a cookie-cutter stand-in for a certain type of person, and I love the way that you invoke the readers' emotions so strongly. Reading your books is ALWAYS satisfying! I am actively collecting all of your books (only missing three and I believe I've found a source for them), but my favorites without question are the trilogy of Indiscreet, Unforgiven, and Irresistible, the third being my favorite of those. I love having the chance to see characters grow and change over time and I just adored the camaraderie, friendship, and loyalty of the Four Horsemen. Thank you for writing such fabulous stories and for sharing them with us! I am never disappointed! :)

I recently read One Night for Love and was quite impressed. Your characters show strength (it was good to read about a woman who had survived devistating hardships). I couldn't put the book down as I followed Lily's development and her subsequent introduction to her father. Neville was not forgotten in your character development either. Will you ever write a story for Lauren? I felt sorry for her, especially when, in chapter 25, she says to Gwendoline after seeing Neville and Lily by the cottage, "It is the sort of life I will never know". She goes on to say that she is incapable of passion. If she were really devoid of caring she would be a thorn in Lily's side until she would have to be banished. I shall look forward to your next publication.

After all, I have to have the latest one for my colection! I loved One Night for Love. Mary never fails to draw me in to her characters. I just spent about 20 minutes going through the letters written to you. How wonderful to find so many people who think exactly like me about your glorious writing abilities, your great stories and how they buy your books as soon as they appear. I have a copy of A Chance Encounter - in fact it was the first book by you that I read - but I didn't know it wasn't published here in the USA. Will you please explain it to me in an e-mail. Thanks again for writing all those beautiful books and all the hours of enjoyment you've given so many of us. Emily

I "got here" because I have your wonderful site bookmarked of course! I wrote a month ago, when I first visited here, in eager anticipation of your new book. It FINALLY arrived, and it entertained me through a long week as a summer music camp counselor. Although I normally read much faster, the exhaustion and constant interuptions prevented this. Yet this allowed me to savor every word, and savor I did. Thank you so much for all your stories. I can't wait for the next.

i have been an avid reader of romance novels since my teens, especially regencies. You have been one of my favorite authors from the time i first read your books. your distinctive and deeply emotional voice are exceptional. i can only think of a handful of romance authors that write as expressively and with as distinctive a personal style as yourself--edith layton, carla kelly, mary jo putney, laura london--yet, you are never repetive in plot or conceit--a remarkable achevement in the genre. but, it must say, i am only 30 pages into One Night for Love and i guess(never sure) the at the heroine will prove to have upper class parentage at any rate, your books are one of only three must buys on my list--next to pamela morsi and laura kinsale--and the top of that list thank you for all of your writing and for all of the hours of pleasure and thought you have given to me

Hi Mary--I have been a loyal fan for years. There is a whole section of my library just for your books. But, I have to tell you, I don't think One Night for Love is going to be in the front of that section. I really enjoyed Lily but I found Neville amazingly boring and uninteresting. Normally I can see your stories in my mind just as if they were a play or a movie. But Neville was so bland and wishy-washy I could never develop a picture of him. At one point, I was actually hoping you would surprise your readers and have Lily dump Neville for Joseph (Neville and Lauren actually did make a better couple). At least Joseph was never boring, always urbane and mysterious, and promised a future with much more fun! Please...give us a book with Joseph that is full of zest and a unique woman--he deserves it.

Have been a fan for years and have most of your books. After a busy day at work it is great to escape into another time and world. You have a very great talent and tell a story well and with a holding interest to the reader. I like your humor especially. .Lady with Dark Umbrella and the Unlikely Duchess. and Plumed Bonnet....also one of my favorites is Secrets of the Heart..All are so very good ..I wondered why no web page so when I bought One Night for Love I found your address..My used bookstore in my town can't keep your books..Isn't it nice that you can make so many people happy. When travelling in England I always visit Bath and the assembly rooms etc..It makes it all come true when you read about it. Keep the good work up and keep such original stories coming.

I must have been up way too late last night! I just noticed the misspelled word in the message I sent earlier. As a former teacher of high school English myself, I am really chagrined at that error on my part. However, back to you. I have been an avid reader and collector of your books since the very first one I ever read. Some of them have managed to escape my clutches, however, and I have been searching the internet to replace them. So far, I have located and purchased all but Red Rose. I haven't given up, though. I will find that one, as well. In fact, I am eagerly awaiting delivery of Gilded Web and Devil's Web that I just purchased from the internet. I have been a fan of regencies ever since I was a teenager who stumbled upon Georgette Heyer's books at the public library. I have every one of her regencies in my library, and I still go back and reread hers. My favorite of her regencies is These Old Shades. I do think you are most like her in that you give your characters realistic behaviors and attitudes--there is meat on those bones, if you will. Thanks for all the many hours of enjoyment your writing has provided and continues to provide me. As so many others have said, my one complaint is that once I begin one of your novels, I cannot put it down until I'm finished. Sincerely, Lily.

I have been reading your books for many years (maybe 10-12?) and just finished One Night For Love yesterday - it was SUPER!!! (You're on my list of authors for which my local WaldenBooks saves every new book that is published.) I got so caught up in it that I read the entire book in one day. Although I enjoyed the entire book , I especially appreciated the scene when Lily froze up at the first kiss from Neville after they were re-united - thank you for a dose of reality! I have read too many books in the past where a heroine who had been sexually traumatized didn't seem to have to deal with any of her memories once she was in her beloved's arms - from my perspective that is not accurate. And Neville's willingness to give her the time she needed to work her way through her dilemma showed that he is a TRUE HERO - able to be strong and compassionate!!! Thank you, Mary, for such a stunning addition to my library of your books!!!

What a marvelous wordsmith you are! I discovered Regencies about five years ago and only wish I could find access to the many books of yours I have missed. Wouldn't it be wonderful if your earlier books would be reissued (a la Nora Roberts)! Particularly enjoyed the novels set in Wales. We have a neighbor who is from Wales and recalled hearing about the Rebekahs. Your humor is deliteful - "The Famous Heroine" has been read & reread. While I'm sorry you'll not be writing for Signet, I look forward to your longer works. This is the very first time I have written a "fan" letter, but I felt moved to tell you how much I enjoy your plots and appreciate your ability to use the English language with such beauty and skill. I am so glad you finally got a website. I love all your books and anxiously await each one. One day about 3 years ago, I was at a used book store and I saw some regencies for a quarter each. I hadn't read regencies in years but thought what the heck. Well one of those books was "The Notorious Rake" I was hooked. I ran back to the store and bought every Mary Balogh on the shelf. Over the past three years I have managed to find at new and used book stores, all of your books! "The Trysting Place" was the hardest to find and I had given up, when one day at the library book store there it was...for a quarter!!! I love them all especially the web series. Your books take me back to a better time and place, where people cared about others, where possessions didn't mean everything, where people are good and kind. I have re-read your books many times...I think I have read "Tempting Harriet" about 100 times! Please keep up the great writing. Thank you so much, A Big Fan:)

I like it when you pick up a character from one book and write about him in a story of his own. Iris Bromige did this. I liked her although her style is different from yours.

Dear Ms. Balogh, What a thrill to read in your latest book (O.N.F.L.) that you now have a web site! It's lovely. I have been reading your books for a couple of years, and I have almost all of your novels and quite a few of your novelas. Please keep writing as quickly as you can. I so much appreciate the fact that your books focus on issues of real life and on the relationships between people, rather than on history or intrigue of some sort. Your writing moves me to both laughter and tears, and I always feel an emotional connection to your characters; I become completely enmeshed in their lives for the brief time that it takes to read their stories. Thank you for sharing your awesome gift with us. I shall continue my quest to obtain all of your titles, daunting though the challenge may be.

Anyway, I now have ALL of your books on my "keeper shelves" and I'm about to read ONE NIGHT FOR LOVE. I'd meant to write to you again over the last few years -- your Christmas anthology stories always move me to tears. How you can pack so much emotion into those short stories is just amazing. Please, if you can, keep writing these. Admiringly yours, cv P.S. And to date, my current favorites of your recent books are TANGLED (what a wonderful story ), and THIEF OF DREAMS (what fantastic characters, especially the heroine, who starts out as rather clueless, but evolves into a wonderfully strong woman). You are a goddess of writing . Cyn

On my honor, I do solemnly swear to BUY (not borrow from the library) every book Dell publishes for Mary Balogh. Perhaps if enough of us readers make this promise, Dell will amend Mary's contract so she will still be able to write the Signet Regencies we all love! I can't get enough of your books...look forward to every one and am sorry when they are finished. I am particularly fond of "Tempting Harriet", the book about the divorced couple who run into each other in the city of Bath, and the book about the man who makes a bet regarding a certain virtuous woman and has a chance encounter with her in an inn...(can't remember the names but I have these books in a box in my closet somewhere...) I have enjoyed each and every one of your books! I was thrilled to see in the front of O.N.F.L. that you had a web site. The book was fantastic, but you have to tell us that Lauren finds out that she is lovable, even if she doesn't have a man, and that after she discovers this truth for herself, some kind and loving man will discover it, too. And, of course, you have to give Gwen a life of her own! One of the reasons I love your stories is that you don't hide the fact that love requires work! I can't think of any book of yours that is what I call "fluffy" romance. They tell a story of how two people meet, are attracted to each other, and then find a way to be happy together, IN SPITE of life's circumstances. I only wish I could get a hold of all of your out of print books. Thank you for sharing your stories with me. Michele Stacy

Thrity years ago I lived in England, Reading and Oxford, your books bring the country and its history back to me in a real way. A burly, mustachoed 6'4 former college football player does look "odd" thumbing through the romance section. I agree with you about "Mody Dick" I will never forgive my college literaure prof. for inflicking that horror on me. Once again thank you and keep writing.

I am in the midst of reading One Night for Love. I have read all of your writings and welcome the opportunity to tell you. I have often looked for information about you on the internet and I have been unsuccessful. It was a pleasure to see on your dedication page that you now have your own webpage. Thank you for writing such wonderful stories and characters. I always look forward to the next one.

Thank you for the hundreds (maybe thousands) of hours of reading pleasure and the many wonderful trips to Regency England. The characters you create are so real. You are the one author whose books I constantly look for and immediately snatch off the shelf. Never stop sharing the wonderful people and places of the early 19th century. BTW, if you could convince someone to reprint Red Rose, I would be eternally grateful. Thanks again. Karen Kerkhoff Gromada (author of Mothering Multiples: Breastfeeding and Caring for Twins or More)

Dear Mary, I only recently discovered your books (1998.) I am a member of RWA and even though I do not read Regencies (except for Georgette Heyer until I read them all.) I only bought 'Temporary Wife' because of all the awards you won at RWA. Since then I have read everything I can get my hands on. I love the idea of a publisher reprinting your out-of-print books. I truly think more of my writer friends would love your books if only they could get past the stereotype of 'Regency.' Like so many books in the Romance field, Regencies are marketed as if they are all the same. Who the author is makes all the difference. I am very sorry you were excluded from the awards at RWA last year. I was so looking forward to meeting you. Your stories do what the really, really good books do, they makes the reader a better person - expand our understanding of human nature, help us learn forgiveness, help us learn the importance of love, help us see the pain and humanity behind people who hurt others. Thank you so much. Please keep writing. Sincerely, Judy Theis

Hi Mary! It's great to see your new website. Thank you again for the wonderful letter when I was in Japan. You are truly the most gracious of authors! Now that the Four Horseman series is concluded, I don't suppose we'll be seeing any more of Claude Adams, and his difficult but bewitching wife Clarissa. But I do hope that you will create a "quarreling couple" like them to fill out one of your future books. As secondary characters, Claude and Clarissa were really interesing -- their passion really stole the show from Rex and Catherine! Best wishes, Larry Rogers

I cannot begin to tell you how much I admire you, and how eagerly I await your new novels. You are my very favorite romance novelists, but I hate to limit you, you are one of my favorite novelists, full stop. As an aspiring author, I find you an inspiration. And as a romantic, I can't resist reading you again and again. I've read some of your novels 8 or 9 times...I think I have them all, but I'm going to check the backlist on your web site. Keep writing!! Write more!! I can honestly say that if I never publish a single story, it will have been worth it to have started researching the romance field just to find you. Greetings, Mary, from Saskatoon, We've just bought your latest book "One Night for Love" and are very pleased to discover you now have your own website. We've read all your books and currently own about fifty. As an avid fan of Georgette Heyer's regency novels, I was always disappointed to read a regency that was supposed to be in the Heyer mould but, in my opinion, never came up to the standard she had set. All your books are worthy successors to those of Georgette Heyer. May you long continue to delight all your readers.

Success! I was so excited to see Yahoo finally come up with a web site for you. I've been searching periodically for the last year. I'm suppose to be packing up my household the week of July 12 to move. But I'll either have to pack fast or sneak long breaks to read One Night for Love when it comes out on July 13. I'll be sure to have my tissues out. I don't consider myself an emotional person, but your books make me weep buckets! While I love all your books, the ones I love the most are The Secret Pearl, The Temporary Wife, Heartless, Longing and The Masked Deception - they all tie for #1. One last thing before I take up the entire space on your web page. I tried the UK Amazon site to find Chance Encounter, but to no avail. Do you have the address so I can order it? I just paid $25 for a copy of the Gilded Web and A Gift of Daisies at a secondhand site. I would much rather have much rather paid retail so you could get the royalties. I'm sure many of your other fans feel the same way. Let me know to whom I need to write a letter about re-releasing your older books!! I still need 8 books to round out my Mary Balogh library! One of the things we were going to do is go through your books and list all the relationships. We are anxiously awaiting your new book - keep up the great work with the regencies. kate

Mary, I am so glad to see that you finally have a site of your own. I have been looking for you on the internet since I first signed on over a year ago. The first book of yours that I ever read was The Obedient Bride. I found an old copy in a local Paperback Trader. I have been hooked on your books ever since. My Favorite; An Unlikely Duchess. I must have read that book a dozen times. While veiwing your backlist, I have found that I am missing 2 of your books. This makes me sad, but gives me something to scourer the Paperback Traders for. I also get a kick out of the fact that the name of the Heroine in your first book has the same name as me; Margaret! Looking forward to your next book, Peggy

Hi Mary, Finally - a website to sink your teeth into! Until now, I've had to content myself with reading your interviews on a couple of romance-themed websites. That's how I found your backlist. I so enjoy your books, particulary the Web series, Beyond the Sunrise, Thief of Hearts, and Notorious Rake. Your next book can't come soon enough, I'm suffering from Balogh-withdrawl! PS - What's Ozzie like?

Mary, I just finished back-to-back readings of SNOW DROP and LONGING and had to write to tell you I bawled buckets, and my eyes are red and puffy and I'm dragging around the house like an escapee from a Greek chorus. Wonderful! Marvelous! Gut-wrenching!!!You dragged me right up to the last page before giving me the emotional release and happy ending I so craved. What a superior storyteller you are! Sherrie, emotionally drained

I've been reading Regencies since 1972 - Georgette Heyer being the first and my favorite. I introduced my daughters (2) and they are avid readers also, and one of them has introduced them to her sisters-in-law and they have tea parties. In fact, they called you last nite and told me about this site. They were sooooo excited to hear you! Keep the books coming. JG

Mary, Your website is great thanks so much for saving my old email address(SyberVicki@aol.com) and letting me know when you were up and running. I didn't delete the old address until I heard from you now I can. I've purchased all of your Signet Regencies except for The Wood Nymph and The Trysting Place. These two are nearly impossible to find but I'm not giving up yet. I've read quite a few regencies since we talked and I still think yours are the best. That could be because the first one I read was yours or it could be that you are a magnificent writer. Keep writting and I'll keep buying and reading. I sure wish I had half your talent. Vicki

I recently completed my collection of all your books. This was my first foray into buying used books on the internet and it was really fun. I did it by hit or miss and now that I am finished someone gave me the cite to your page with all the information that could have been so helpful at the beginning. But I am glad to see it nonetheless.

You are my favorite romance author, I have read and all of your published works. I love your website. Thank you for the epilogue to A Christmas Bride, and the excerpt from your new novel. I did notice on your relationships page you left out the fact that Nigle and Silvie Broome from _Red Rose_ appear in _Gentle Conquest_ and that Lord and Lady Chartleigh as well as Lord and Lady Beauchamp from _Gentle Conquest_ appear again in _The Ideal Wife_.

Your new web site is great. I loved the excerpt from your new book. The only bad thing is that is put me into severe Mary Balogh withdrawal. I desperately want to read this new book, but I want to read it NOW, not in July. There is only one cure. I will have to go in my closet and pick out an old one from my collection. (I have EVERY single book you have written, including the short stories) This will, I hope, hold me over.

I accidently found your web site tonight and it is great. I've been collecting and reading and enjoying your work for some time now. I have all of them except two that I must have traded in accidently. Believe me I seldom find any of your books at the booktrade stores. I'll be looking forward to your new book this summerin the meantime I'll just have to read one of my keepers.

Mary, Mary, MARY! Have you any IDEA how long I have waited for you to put up a Web site?!! It is gorgeous, and well worth the wait. Uh oh. Stand back, I feel a haiku coming on! They found me quite stiff A Balogh book in my hand Dead on the commode No more Balogh books Will I read in the bathroom (It's bad for the health) OK, so it's not great poetry, but it does convey how happy I am to be able to drop by for a "visit" and also how hard it is for me to set one of your books down once I've started reading. The first thing I did was print out your backlist so that I can fill the holes on my keeper shelf. I'm having so much fun cruising around your site. I feel like a house guest who is enjoying my visit so much that I've decided to extend my stay, despite the fact I was not invited to do so! (I believe it was Mark Twain who said house guests and fish stink after 3 days.) I'm sorry. I'm babbling. It's just that after typing the name "Mary Balogh" in my search engine for a year and a half, and coming up with zip, all of a sudden I've got a hit! My life is complete. Sherrie

This is a really wonderful website! I am so delighted, you got your own homepage and I'll hurry to add a link to it on my German Romance Fan Site. I am probably one of your biggest fans over here in Germany and I' eagerly waiting for more of your books in German - so I can recommend them on my site. Please do add more reviews because it's really hard to get informations particular about your earlier books. In any case I'll visit this place again and again.

I love that umbrella! I can't wait for the new book. By the way, I just finished "The Temporary Wife." Everyone was right to say such good things about the characters! The revelations about the past of the hero are believable. (Unlike some authors, who throw the kitchen sinks at the poor guys without any idea of what makes sense...) On the minus sign, I haven't been able to find another copy of "Dark Angel." I guess I'll have to order it up.
